iphone as electronic VF M3

Rubber-banding an iphone onto the back of my M3 gave results like this

and this

You can clearly see the framelines and the focus patch in the centre. There seems to be a problem with the vertical alignment, maybe I need a different rubber band?

There may be some practical applications beyond showing what it looks like through the VF... but I can't think of any off hand.

crazy stuff but I do use my iPhone with a light meter app. Works quite nice.

I really like the iphone lightmeter app too... although it's view through the VF is pretty pokey.

cool use of rubber bands. i use the lightmeter app as well. not the fastest of things. but it's free! can't really complain about that

Darren, battery life is about 8 hours, less with Angry Birds.

I tried to find a Leica red rubber band. Not too far off I think, although purists will disagree.

Anyone game to try the same with their camera and post some pics?
It'd be interesting to see the different frame lines and designs.
