Hi all, I am new to this forum and by way of a quick intro I bought a second hand M8.2 exactly one year ago on eBay (which was as described and problem free to this day). It was my first experience with Leica and I've been hooked ever since. At the beginning of this month my annual bonus was more than what I was expecting so I splurged on a brand spanking new M9 last week. With the 8.2, I bought 3 IR cut filters which I know isn't necessary for the 9; however, according to the Leica M9 FAQ sheet it stated that I can continue to use the filters on lenses 35mm and longer. Since these filters weren't cheap I'd like to continue using them on my 50mm and 90mm lenses in place of UVs. Has anyone tried this and any bad results from this pairing? Many thanks!

Regards,
Paul

I have not had problems leaving the IR cut filters on with my 50mm and longer lenses. Things to watch for: possible reflection back into the picture, especially with night scenes. About the same as the M8, though.

No problems at all on longer lenses, except for the "standard"ones like flare and reflections. B&W 007 "protective" filters are considerably more suitable for the job. Otoh the M9 has some residual IR sensitivity, so for optimal color fidelity these filters are useful.

Color shift towards the corners - unlike the M8, the M9 has no firmware corrections for cyan drift.
