I have been experimenting with IR images using the M8 and here are the latest ...

1/30th at F2.8: very reasonable times for IR! No need for tripod and 10sec exposures.

Don't be fooled by the aperture in the EXIF. The M8 does not record the aperture, only the MaxAperture of the lens. I believe all of my IR images were shot between f/5.6 and f/11. But, the shutter speed does indicate I was able to handhold it. Yup, quite a convenient IR machine.

I think my exposures are pretty close to what you've been using. I had been considering sending one of my Canon PowerShot cameras away to be modified as a dedicated IR camera.

If I can shoot handheld with the M8 at 1/30 then I won't need another camera.

The most difficult thing for me has been getting the focus correct. With my 35mm Summicron I focus through the rangefinder and then move the resulting focus point over until it is opposite the rightmost "8" on the hyperfocal ring. That seems to work pretty good.

I suppose a true crazy person could adjust the rangefinder so as to focus for IR...

Brian, what do you mean by "F2"? Is that where you move the focus point to?
I'm using the TE with a Tiffen filter and I move the focus point to '5.6' to adjust for the IR shift. Tested it using a tape and it works. thanks......

The current Summicron ASPH doesn't have a marked IR focus point. I suppose with trial and error any lens could be used for IR, though my taste runs towards the wide for this sort of thing.

I wish I could jury rig an IR filter onto my 15mm CV. That would make for an interesting setup particularly given the DOF that lens provides.

I haven't shot any IR film in a long time but there is a page with tons of IR info.
Worth spending some time at I think.

On all the lenses I have that have IR marks, it replaces 5.6 on the right side of the debth of field scale
