Finally I got me a Gelios-103, built 1983, clean and nice. But what bothers me a bit is that the iris is visible from the front as a 2 mm ring when put at 1.8.
Is this normal?

Yes. There is about 2mm showing at the periphery of the aperture.

Could it and would it make sense to hack the iris mechanism so that it opens completly?
The question is, would this make the lens more luminous (and introducing aberations especially at the corners) or would it do nothing as the back pupil is to tiny anyway?
I don't intend to hack my lens, just curious to know if anybody did it.
