Is 28mm wide enough on a M8?

Not so wide on an M8. But my 21 Elmarit is too heavy so a 28 sits on my M8 for "wide" shots. Maybe a CV 15 would be perfect in wideness and weight.

Yes to the 15mm Heliar if you want to go REALLY wide (20mm-equivalent). Note, though, that you will need to code it if you're going to use it with a UV/IR filter. And even when coded, tinted corners may appear. But that a general problem with wide angles on the M8.

Another vote for a 28mm as your walkaround lens. Framelines are perfect, and equivalent field of view of a 37mm lens makes it a great allrounder.

Normally I'd say go for the 28mm as I find it the perfect lens on my M8 (I have a Zeiss Biogon), however I find it's too close to my 35mm which I never use and will be waiting until I upgrade to an M9.

If you are going to sell your 35mm, get the 28mm - otherwise get the 25mm Biogon

But it is intensely personal. I was screwing up my courage to buy a 24 Summilux when (thank God) the M9 came out. For decades my standard lens on full-frame was a 35 Summilux and I couldn't bring myself to use a slow lens as a "standard". The M9 gave me all my focal lengths back.

indeed. I started with an M8/24mm combination and tired of the influence of that hideous 35mm twinned frame line plonked in the middle of images I was trying to construct. By comparison, using the M8 with a 28mm lens is a much more fluid user experience than with a 24. The added advantage with an M8/35mm combination is not having any intrusive twinned frame line inside it's 35mm framing. I now only use 28mm and 35mm with the M8.

I mostly use a 50 on the M8 and a 28 or 35 on the M9. It allows me flexibility by rotating the lenses between the M9 and the M8. The 50 on the M8 gives me a short tele, and on the M9 it gives me a normal lens. The 35 or 28 on the M9 give me moderate wide angle lenses, while on the M8, these lenses get closer to a 35/50 set.

Thank you for the thoughts so far! Pgk, you find the built in viewfinder enough for the 21mm?

I always used an auxiliary view finder for my 21 mm Biogon on my M8. It was kinder to my eyes and much more useful when wearing glasses. It paired nicely with my 35 Summicron.

I was out today shooting with my 21mm on my MP. To get that FOV with the M8.2, I use the CV 15mm.
