Darkroom printing lives
Riley, I applaud your bold prediction and strategy. As much as I rooted Olympus to *wake up* from its deep slumber and revive a lot of their excellent innovations, I am not holding my breath for it to happen.
Reason 1: Olympus doesn't seem to *want* to win any market share at all
- although the new successor of E-1 was announced, Olympus is not actively wooing the professional crowd. Name one world-reknown photographer that has been approached by Olympus (a'la David Bailey) recently. None. Why not?
- Olympus nowadays seem to be content chasing the rabitt hole where the slim-everything-auto-flat-picture-producing pocket stuffer. Even asking for the digital version of the Olympus Epic Stylus 2.8 is too much, apparently.
Reason 2: Olympus seem to refuse to be proud of their excellent heritage, let alone take advantage of it.
- Ever heard of the Pen-F SLR system? that's the main reason why the porro-finder design is even being used today (by Leica's Digilux 3 no less). Did we see Pen-F being used to promote its direct descendant, the E-300 and E-330?? No. Why not?
As far as producing a digital RF camera, Olympus *does* have the "DNA" as well as the experience, the question is are they willing to use it? All Olympus has to do is to create a digital RF body that accepts M-bayonet. That solves the lens problem. As far as the body, don't go too far back to the Ace, how about the 35 RC or SP?
... or do we dare to imagine a cute little digital XA ? (drooooll...)
To summarize, Olympus has all it takes to be successful to enrich the digital RF arena, the question is, are they willing?
Apology to the rest of the group, I know this is a Canon RF forum, I don't mean to hijack it to talk about Olympus, but just as you guys feel about Canon as far as RF is concerned, I felt the same frustration about Olympus.
