Is a Praktica LTL 3 a Decent Camera?

Hi,

I've got to go along with the likers on this one. They are pleasant camera with decent lenses and a lot of people started with one and never regretted it.

But they are getting old and, I'm sorry to say, cheap. That means they don't get repaired or, worse still, they get repaired by the owners. FWIW, I think that the decision about repairing a camera depends on how much you like it, not what you paid for it. Often a repair will give it a whole new lease of life.

Loved my MTL3 with the exact same lens. First camera i bought for my own money, age 16. Solid, reliable and gave good results. Dropped it a few times, and it survived. Last time however lens fell apart. Concrete won. Would like another as mine has gone AWOL.

Another happy MTL3 and Pentacon 50/1.8 user here. Have put a decent load of Kodachrome through it the 15 years I used it as my only camera. And it was a hand-down of my dad. Somehow those camera's seem to keep going.

The LTL-3 is the only PraKtica I had that didn't develop problem with the shutter.

I have four Prakticas, two MTL3s, one of which was DOA, and two PLC3s. The PLC3s take the Pentacon electric lenses and allow open aperture metering. The metering on these cameras is as accurate as any of my more modern SLRs and I find them easier to use than new SLRs with the LED metere.
