hi
i am considering ordering some voigtlander gear from adorama, but have read on the net that their voigtlander products are grey market.
i have checked with adorama twice and both times they have said they are not a grey market supplier for voigtlander and their voigtlander sales carry the manufacturer's warranty.
can anyone confirm or clarify this for me?
thanks

I believe this was brought up in another thread, where both B&H and Adorama reps commented. Couldn't find it in a quick search, but to my memory, it was never fully resolved.
Hopefully somebody else can point you toward the thread.

thank david, there are certainly some threads on these forums stating that adorama (and b&h) are grey market. i still wonder since adorama have offered to confirm in writing that they are not a grey market importer and their sales definitely offer the cv warranty.
any further input would be appreciated

Don't think that thread exists anymore.
If I remember right, they are not grey market (unless items are explicitly labeled as such) and buy from one of the two US distributors.
Contact RFF member HelenOster for more info.

That would explain why I can't find it.

Is there any such thing as gray market in regards to Voigtlander??? Have you tried contacting Voigtlander directly? While I think highly of Adorama I do not think there is a price difference between them and Camera Quest so if your concerned about the warranty why not just buy it from Camera Quest?

Agreed, if for no other reason (although there are plenty) than the fact that RFF'ers get free shipping on most orders from cameraquest.

There is a tax difference for some of us. Then again, I can also recommend Photovillage. Also, there are sometimes price differences. For example, the 35/1.4 is $559 at adorama and 579 at Cameraquest.

If you are worried about it why not buy from either Photovillage or CameraQuest. They are certifiably not grey market.

I can categorically confirm that Adorama is an authorized retailer of Voigtlaender, and all Voigtlaender products sold by Adorama come with a full manufacturer's warranty.

If you're from NYC trying to buy a voigtlander buy it at photo village the guys there are chill as can be and have always hooked it up. They let me play with cameras they know as a poor college student I cant afford. The best part no half an hour lines and personal 1 on 1 kind a business. Besides I believe they were one of the first in the country to carry voigtlander to begin with.

I usually try things out at Photo Village or Adorama but to save on tax, I plan on buying directly from CameraQuest. Tax on three lenses will be pretty steep (~$220). I'll be ordering a 28/2, 35/1.2 and 50/1.1. I'm usually all about supporting local businesses but I have no qualms in this instance since I regularly spend a good amount at both NYC shops already.

To whom and where do I send it for repair in the USA?

No, I didn't receive an alert until 30 seconds ago. I'm going to check right now.
EDIT:
Sorry, got caught up immediately after.
You had me doubting my own sanity for a minute! As I have noted before, all Voigtlaender products sold by Adorama come with a full warranty from the manufacturer, therefore, if you have a problem within the first year you would return it to:
THE PHOTO VILLAGE, INC.
1133 BROADWAY,SUITE #824
NEW YORK NY 10010
Phone# 212-989-1252
There is no Manufacturer representative in the USA; there are only distributors.
Above is OUR distributor for that product line.
If you require warranty service after that, you would need to purchase an extended warranty, such as from Mack.
We also recommend that overseas customers consider purchasing an additional warranty, as a Voigtlaender unit purchased in the US carries a US warranty which MAY not be honored internationally. The cost of such a warranty is usually significantly less expensive than the cost of shipping back to the manufacturer for warranty repair.
While most of our current stock is warranted for 12 months by the current - and future - US distributor, we do have a few old pieces which carry an Adorama warranty; these are noted clearly on our website.
