I bought a Tribute Album for Steve Goodman ("City of New Orleans"), and found out I shot a cover photo. Sent his agent a note asking for credit, still waiting. ;-)
I would gladly have given permission, but many feel if they have physical possession of a print, they have the copyright. I gave prints to Steve on a number of occasions.
Cleveland State has a website for The Sacred Landmarks Research Group with about half of the photographs taken by me, they promised to give credit, and later put up a copyright notice giving themselves the copyright. I shot the photos for less than my expenses -- and a friend promised to give credit-- lots of promises, little action.
Don't think I am going to sue Steve's widow, or Cleveland State, and they know that.
Still, would be nice if they showed some class.
If I have prints made at Costco, my first name is always Copyright.
Regards, John
