Is Film Dying Again ?

What matters is not film or digital, but the images you create by whichever process you choose. One is not better then the other. Each is a means to a similar end. Whatever road you travel, whatever makes you feel comfortable, and jives with your vision, so be it.

I for one would love to see these film versus digital, digital versus film threads self destruct.

Yes, this. Well said.

Keith , the intention I had in starting this thread was NOT to rehash film vs digital. It was to get a sense from people here if they thought that the ebb and flow of film use and equipment sales was similar to what I personally felt

Some people have derided this as trolling or yet another film is dead or film vs digital thread. That was not my intention.

My experience has been exactly yours: "film is dead" but I could get it anywhere and get it processed easily. But most people thought it had vanished.

Now it HAS vanished from retail outlets. As hendriphile said,

hendriphile said:
"Film isn't just merely dead, it's really really really dead!"

-- at least in the Land of Oz.

But it's still available online, as are processing services.

As for film equipment, a camera that I bought no fewer than three examples of for a combined cost of under $200, now sells for nearer $300 per camera. FSU lenses are getting expensive enough that Leica lenses look reasonably priced. Even Jupiter-12 lenses that can't be used on most digital cameras.

Consumer use of film is dead.

Enthusiast use continues.

Film is dead ... long live film.

It's "She's not merely nearly dead, she's really most sincerely dead!" The wizard of Oz is technicolor, transparent cibachrome, so film's alive and well in Oz.

Oil! Can!

😀

Film prosessing here was quite good many years, but now the guy running the about only place has been forced to raise prices due to gov't so the prices for me is not acceptable. I got my color chemistry and will process my own films. Bw has been scheisse for years, better and Very much cheaper to do on own.
Film might be in deathfight, but also new films is up. As long as the gang stops buying old expired film on ebay and order new film from resellers (cheaper!!!), then we might be good (you hippies know that putting a filmroll in the window on the sun makes it Lomostyle, just experiement with it). If no new film is bought and used and no chemistry is bought and used, none will be available.

OK just so I have this clear can you kill film with a shot to any part of the body or does it have to be a head shot? I always get confused when dealing with the living dead.

Then you should have done some searching and skipped the BS headline.

I have no idea what the ebb and flow of gear sales is because I am too busy making photographs, making prints, matting and selling them....I take it that the same can not be said of a person who tracks gear sales...

Why does it often seem you are looking for someone to insult or belittle?
Aren't there some photos for you to go sell, matt, or print or something?

If I started some half cocked thread asking if "Digital is dying again" I would be rightly called a troll. This place is the ONE EFFING SITE I can come to and generally not hear this crap but here we have it, makes NO sense at all.

If I want an answer to something, I take the time to seek it out before posting something and if I come up short, I then carefully consider how to pose the question.

It's complete web sensation BULLSH_T, anyone who really cares about making an even a 1/2 way decent photo would not waste their time with it. I would say the SAME thing if not more in person...FACE to FACE!!

If you are shooting "street" you can kill film with back shots. Otherwise any film shooting should include the head.

re: KM-25. there are some serious collectors on this site as well as serious photographers. Some of us are rank amateurs at both. Perhaps it's all onanism, but it brings us pleasure...

"Artful concern trolling involves developing a believable persona as a supporter of a cause who has legitimate concerns. In an example of concern trolling, a group of people might be having a political discussion on a website about a candidate they support. The concern troll would log on and say “I'm concerned that this candidate might not be strong enough to beat the opposition,” or “I'm worried that the candidate's history in the legislature might be a problem in the election.”"

Looked in the obits section today, didn't read anything about film death!

At my age, it's the first page to read in the morning paper to see if anyone I know is listed!

Bill, I usually check to see if MY name is there first! If it's not, I figure it's going to be a pretty good day. 😀
