I recently obtained a Leitz Summicron-m 50 (made in Canada, 1982)
its a fantastic lens but the aperture ring feels very "loose".

Is it easy to adjust the aperture ring, to make it tighter?
there is also a slight movement (0,5 mm) past both f2 and f16.

Any tips?
or do i need to hand it in to a camera specialist?

Works fine, but doesn´t feel right,

With thanks in advance...

My 35 ASPH is easy to adjust, but with firm click detents and no sense that it is likely to move inadvertantly. My old 50 and 90 felt the same. I'd expect the Summicron-M 50 to feel the same too.

ah - you don't mean easy to adjust, as in, it's easy to change apertures... you mean, how easy to adjust/repair the firmness required?

I'd send it out.

Thanks, exactly.

there are two screws on either side of the aperture ring, unsure if these do anything other than hold the ring in place.

Anyone out there have any experience on D.I.Y adjustments, or is this risky business?

thx

My 50 Summicron of that vintage has the same "problems" of going slightly past the clicks at f/2 and f/16, feeling slightly loose, and it was made in Wetzlar. It's been that way since I got it way back when. Enjoy the lens. It's a nice sharp lens with good contrast and nice bokeh. Worry less.

ChrisN, totally off-topic but were you at the Mawson woolies tonight? I either saw you, or someone incredibly similar coming up the aisle towards me, and I knew i'd seen that face before!
