Is it fake?

Thanks for all your help guys!

My bro will be relieved. When he told me he boght it I mentioned my concerns of it being fake. From then on he was searching like mad to find out if it is a fake. I'll pass this on to him.

What made him concerned? I'm really curious to know. Was it just purchasers' remorse, or does he know something about the M6 that raised a red flag for him?

And though they aren't fakes per se, the Red Flag 20 series of cameras are a rather close copy of the M4.

True, but it's hard enough even getting a PICTURE of a Red Flag, so I gather a real camera would fetch a tidy sum :D Maybe someone will fake one with an M4 and claim it was used by Mao himself or something.

I remember a thread from a Chinese gentleman with a wealth of info on the Red Flag, didn't Mao's wife use one? Anyway, fascinating story.

I have not seen a Leica M fake before. It is difficult to fake the smoothness and shutter feel of the Leica M not to mention the shape...

There are fake Leicas M's
Obviously no-one is going to fake M6 but the original MP has been faked!! Using other Leicas!!

When he told me he bought it I mentioned that there are fakes out there and the fake that is said *RARE* did not help the case. But I should have mentioned that I'm no expert in that area and that maybe it was the earlier M's when that was a problem.

Now I just kid him about paying 'too little' for a *RARE* Leica, which cost him a trip to Europe later this fall...
