I had been told that the fridge is OK, but it's best NOT to put film back in the freezer once the original package has been opened.
The reason is that the film was in a controlled-humidity environment when originally "canned," so freezing a never-opened can is OK.
But once the can (or wrapper) has been opened, normal-humidity air is admitted. If you put the film back into the freezer, even if you put it back in the can first, that humid air is still in there -- meaning there's the risk that the humidity will condense on the film, potentially causing problems such as spots or sticking. (That's also why you're supposed to warm fresh-frozen film back up near room temperature before unwrapping or uncanning it.)
As I say, that's what I was told... but I've never tested it. Another job for the RFF Mythbusters!
