Hello Photographers,
is there any chance to make a M mount lens usable for LTM cameras?
Considering the 40mm cron.

In general I am looking for a black, very flat and compact 35-40mm lens to use on my Leica Standard. RF coupling is not necessary.
I realy love the output from the 40mm cron, I also tried a VC 35mm 2.5, Canon 35mm 2.0, J12 and Elmar 3,5cm. None of them made me that happy like the 40mm Cron did.

The VC 28mm 3.5 would be another option, but its so hard to find nowadays. :/

Easy, you need the Pentax 43mm in LTM (yes it's expensive and rare)

Another option, the Chiyoko Super-Rokkor 45mm f2.8 in LTM (about 200$)

You could even grab a MD/a...

That Pentax 43 LTM ain't compact at all.

You might get a 35 Summaron painted for less than something remounted.

Not exactly compact either, but there was a 35/2.0 ASPH made in LTM, maybe only in silver though?

Rollei 40mm/2.8 Sonnar? Some are in black, and they are LTM despite the advertising (came with adapter, for Rollei branded version of CV Bessa R2)

Plenty of possibilities, if RF coupling is not a requirement: Any «pancake» SLR lens with an adapter, I'd suggest.

Canon 2.0/35mm is a good contender for a more modern look and LTM. It's very small too, 40mm filter size and does not stick out too much. It's dubbed the Japanese 35 Summicron. Have a look on Flickr to see what it can do.

Else: UC-Hexanon 2.0/35mm LTM, black paint lens with 43mm filter size. Held in high regard, excellent lens. Or the Hexanon 2.0/35mm non-UC LTM, a chrome lens with 46mm filter size. Less known and has a wee bit focus drift wide open and close up, nothing alarming.
Both were made in 1,000 ex. batches so expect to pay more for them.

If f/2 and black is not essential: 35 f/2.8 Summaron. Made in LTM and M-mount, The early M-mounts had a removable dedicated M-mount ring that was screwed on the LTM lens barrel, effectively making it a dual mount. Awesome lens, but not cheap.

Contact Don Goldberg ( DAG ) or SK Grimes. Either will cost you a few, but they are probably the best out there to do this sort of thing. MS Optical comes to mind as well, but you would have to send it to Japan through someone like Japan Camera Hunter.

Maybe someone can measure the outer diameter of the rangefinder cam and the thickness of the mounting flange? If it's < 37mm and the flange thickness is >2mm, it can be done non-destructively by machining a new custom flange that's 1mm thinner and has l39 thread. It might cost as much as the 'cron for one off, ordered from a machine shop.
If you have to touch the rf cam, there's no going back and you need a full disassembly to make it happen..

Hi,

I'll second that and wish you luck finding one...

Anything true LTM in Black will cost you much more than Chrome. LTM lens are in Chrome era.
Canon 35/2 ltm is an option, but as you said you tried it and do not like it. I don't like it either, mostly because of the cheap construction.
The uc hexanon 35/2 black is another option, far more costly than Canon but a nice lens.
Summicron 35/2 v1 or Summaron 35/2.8 ltm in black, both are extremely rare, very costly.
Rolliei 40/2.8 ltm, hard to find too.
Pentax as mentioned, not cheap either.
Nikkor 35mm ltms (f1.8, f2.5 ...) chrome, later version with black aperture ring. Nice lens. F2.5 is not expensive.
Voigtlander 35mm 1.7, this could be actually the best bet for you. Fair price one

At the low prices Leica CL bodies are selling for, it would be far less expensive just to buy a CL body than modifying a 40 Summicron.

Thank you guys! Great opinions so far.

So, if remounting a M lens to LTM is too expensive, would it be cheaper or "easier" to "just" paint a nickel/chrome lens black?
Any recommendations for doing this in Europe?

I like the look how uncoated lenses render a scene, so anything before WWII would be an option. 🙄

In my inner circle are: Nickel Elmar 5cm, Elmar 3,5cm, Summar and certain rare lenses like the Delft Minor. Well, so far I am using a black J12 and like its handling pretty much. Dunno about how it renders yet. VC lenses are realy not my cup of tea btw.

Cf. your thread of 2014:

M-mount to Screw mount. Is it possible?
