Is it real (fed 6 ttl)

Well, I certainly did hear that prototype Fed 6's were made prior to now, so this might just be a shot at a very rare FSU camera! The guy has high positive feedback, too.

Interesting...

Huh, pretty wild.

If I had the spare $$$ I'd snag it. If nothing else, it certainly is a more hansome camera than the Fed 5.

Of course, there's always the possibility that the ad was listed by the same guy who had a "Leica M-6 SLR" for sale. On that one, I went on the "Ask seller a question" and informed him that no "M" Leica is an SLR. Woops!

No wonder so many of those eBay ads say something like "I don't know much about cameras, and I don't know how to operate this one."

There was another recent case of a "Leica II", and I forget the sub-letter. But the photo clearly showed a slow-speed dial. Nah, that's a III, guy. (Yes, I know the factory used to update models, but do you believe the serial number or the evidence at hand????)

Thing is that it really doesn't look like anything to have been faked up from. OTOH, I'm not especially familier with the LTM FSU cameras. I'm inclined to believe it was a real prototype. I'm just glad it isn't a Kiev 6 TTL prototype... :bang:

Looks like a Fed 5B with Zenit TTL lettering and an added rubber grip. Nice touch, black paint, but 99.9999 % chance it's not a real version of any production Fed I've ever seen or heard of, sorry.

Hmmm... the ebay ad says only 3 were made, and that one is #3. The other site seems to indicate that it's #5.

K-Z,
I hate to disagree but Princelle's book does mention it. No picture but he says something like"search the web" I will look for the reference when I get home and let you know the page#, etc. I think it's towards the end of the FED article.

I don't doubt a Fed 6 ttl excists or that these are photos of one. I just doubt that he really has one for sale. Most of his sales show original pics of the cameras he's selling and the ones on this auction don't seem original.

Indeed a Kiev TTL was made, and yesterday, while giving Princelle 2nd a read, I found a metered Zarya that had a similar meter readout window in the camera back. Also the logo looks like a modernized Fed one. Could be real.

But that's still a grand for a Fed... :)

Well, it went for 1325 USD, or about 70 Fed 5's... A bit above my budget. I hope the buyer receives what he expects and posts some information about it somewhere. The buyer seems to be a serious collector of FSU-gear.

I was just reading over at Best Stuff and Bob Shell mentioned seeing it at the Internation German Photo Expo in 2000, so they do exist.

Hey, Taffer, what model did they base the TTL Kiev on?

Thanks, Rob. I should have looked more thoroughly, I just looked at the photos and the "history chart" or whatever they call it.

William, seems it was based on the Kiev 4. The metering system used 2 selenium cells that retracted during exposure time (a-la Leica CL/M5). Same lens mount as the Kiev 5.

PS: If this goes against the copyright I'll delete the image asap, but probably this will make William order a copy of Princelle 2nd, so... :)

Drool. I wonder if the guts from a VC Meter II would fit into the Kiev 5 case? Then cut the top down a bit lower... :bang:  :bang:

You're right about the book. It's on my list to get asap.

I could buy a regular FED and a nice lightmeter, and still have $ for 2 years of film for what that cost! :)

The buyer has posted over on the Best Stuff Russian Camera Forum. Hopefully he'll give us all a detailed run-down and pictures once he's actually in posession of it. Should be interesting.
