Is it wise to put the R-D1 in a case?

Well, at least in use? The digital SLRs I use heat up when used continuously.
Cases, leather or otherwise, are rarely found with these cameras. Would it be good for the health of the R-D1s or any digi-RF to use them enclosed in a case (or even a half-case) while shooting with them? This may not be a concern in colder climates or seasons, but digital cameras really get hot in the tropics or in warm weather.

I've never used a case on my RD1. I have a grip that I modified photoequipment corp that works beautifully. It rides in my Mclassics bag with my M6.

The RD1 acts as one big heatsink and doesn`t get hot Jay, so I don`t see it as a problem in a half case such as Luigi`s or one from another camera . Unfortunatley it`s that bit too wide to go in a Zorki-4 case and you`d have to cut the case to clear the strap lugs anyway ..

Thinkin` of getting one? . If so then a massive Welcome aboard to RFF`s resident FSU Expert :D :D :D

I always use my RD-1 in its leicatime half case.We had some high temperatures this summer in the Uk.Epson market a full case so I wouldnt imagine any problems-I certainly havent experienced any.

Hi Adam

thanks for the welcome. An R-D1s is on the way from Japan, and I expect to have it sometime after the 12th. :D

The reason I asked is that I know some digital cameras can go really crazy when they get hot. The Fuji Finepix S2 for instance will render hues differently or sometimes even make strange patterns on the pictures when it (or perhaps its sensor) gets hot. And it really gets hot here- 28C is considered mildly cool most of the time. In studio settings where this camera is often fired continuously, I would often have to hold the camera in front of the AC vent to cool it off.

Didier suggested that the R-D1s can fit into a late Kiev case. I've a few of these lying around. Will see how it goes in a few days.
