Is mir.com finally down for good?

I sent an email to the tech contact on the domain. Maybe I will get a response and find out a bit more about it. I offered to host it on my server if needed- can't see letting something that valuable just die. The site has been invaluable to me on my photographic journey.

I echo your sentiment. Shame if it's lost.

That would be a shame.

I've always been confused with mir.com.my.
Is the camera site on their own domain and server or is there a parent host? Hopefully it's only a web server glitch.

Yeah, I was just trying to go there myself. Let's hope it's temporary. I am always amazed at the extent and thoroughness of that site. Who is he, anyway? He deserves recognition!

It's all the work of mostly one retired guy.

I corresponded with him on various photographic subjects (like ten years ago), and he had some of my photos up on the site.

Maybe he's sick or didn't pay the hosting fee. But he seemed to be a pretty financially sound person. Who knows?

As I recall from an earlier thread, the original owner is no longer with us, and the site was then taken over by someone who was keeping it alive in his memory. I could be wrong though.

There were lots of times that I'd try to get in the site, and it would be down, but that seemed to always be on the same day of the week, so I figured it was just server maintenance time. It would always be back the next day, but this time doesn't bode well, as it's been longer than that. I have changed browsers because of the Flickr update, but that shouldn't affect my links.

It was down all day Wednesday, but then back up in the evening (UT-7 time). Now today it's down again. Hopefully this is a dns or server problem.

"The guy" is Leo Foo.

I guess I shouldn't have been too worried, but it had never been down more than a day at a time in my experience. I'm just happy it's back up and running. I do appreciate the Wayback link, rscheffler.
