Is new Walgreens really Fuji??? The conclusion is ...

A four-pack of the 200 is going for $4.99; according to the card on the rack the sale will run through the end of June.

Hmmmm ... If the $4.99 is a special price, the regular price must be close to $5.99, which is what Target' often sells the Fuji branded stuff for. I think I've even seen Kodak Gold 200 at $5.99 at times at Target'.

I figure if they keep selling film to me and others, they'll keep carrying it!

When I had a talk with a Walgreens manager back around New Years, he was saying that sales (or lack of sales) is really what they look for when they decide what to stock and what to drop. He emphasized that there are no grand plans to phase out film or even reduce the shelf space it gets. However, he said that if anything, whether its film, shampoo, or trash bags, does not move regularly, it will get dropped.

LOL! Maybe we should do a deal where I send you loads of film from the US for your FSU body.

Only prob. is I'm looking for some kind of LTM body with 35mm lines built in.

Got it. I'll report on my walgreens type and price next time I'm in there.

When Agfa went kerblooey, Walgreens ran specials on their "Studio 35" house-brand film, which was (most agreed) Agfa Vista. Prices varied, but often dropped to less than a buck a roll. And many people liked the relatively subdued but accurate colors of Agfa Vista color print film. So it was a great film to go out and burn on a budget.

It appears that Walgreen's stock of old Agfa film is about gone now, so we see people wondering what they will use for a 'house film' next. There are really only a couple of choices - Ferrania, Kodak, and Fuji, as far as I know. I don't think there is anything else made.

Just picked up some of the 4 packs of 400 Studio 35 film for $7.99 (with free 4x6 magnetic frame). Canister is just like my Fuji 400, same recyclying triangle and codes, smells like Fuji, and "Product of Japan".

Also got some 4 packs of 200 for $4.99 (no free frame!). expire date is 4/07 on the 200, and 1/08 on the 400. This is probably the Agfa, made in Germany, black canisters, earlier expire date.

Bill, I think your Walgreens priced the B&W wrong, mine has 3 x Kodak 400 B&W 24 rolls for $11.49 or $11.99, but I still think that's high.

Keep in mind that Fuji branded multi-packs from the Marts have that $1.00 off coupon on the inside, so if you look for sales, you can probably find the Fuji branded at close or same as this Walgreens Fuji.

I recall reading somewhere on-line that the Fuji Frontier machines could do fairly high res scans by adjusting the output print size?
In other words, if the operator sets the print size at(IIRC) 13"x18" before scanning negs, the scan is at a high resolution(3000 dpi? can't remember). The scan dpi is tied to the print size. So if one were to then skip any prints you could get a decently high res CD?
Any one know about this?

This is a good question. I do believe there is one more manufacturer of color negative film in the world. That would be Lucky in China. There may be another maker, possibly in another former Eastern European former USSR country? I would suspect that one might see Lucky brand color neg. film at some point readily available as house brand film somewhere.

My local Walgreens (two of them) had plenty of four-pack 400 (Germany) at $7.99 - both with and without free magnetic frame - expiring 6/06, four-pack 200 (Germany) expiring 6/06 at $6.99. There was only one four-pack 200 (Japan) expiring sometime in 07 at $4.99 (regularly $6.99) between the two stores.

Just a couple hours ago I finally found a 4-pack of Japanese 400. $6.99 for the 4-pack, and $3.49 for single rolls. Yeah, go figure! 🙂

All of the 200 in this particular store was the older Agfa.

Sure looks like Fuji to me. I am looking right now at the leader of the Walgreens and a roll of Fuji 400 (Superia Xtra) and the shade of the emulsion side of the film is identical on both of them. I'll shoot a roll over the next few days and report on the results.

Ah, I was unaware that Lucky makes color film, but I see from their website that they do. I stand corrected. I have searched for the makers of film that I know of in FSU, such as Svema and Tasma, but have not been able to make contact with them, even through their respective trade associations. In any case, I was aware that Tasma B&W can be purchased in the UK, but I had no knowledge of any color film made by them.

The local Walgreens has an 8-pack of the German 200 ASA stuff for $4.69. I'm too lazy to do the math, but that's, what, something like 60 cents a roll?
