Hi all,
Found this little beauty on the local site and wondered if you might be able to give me an idea of what questions to ask.
http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=215979174
No idea of what a camera in similar condition would cost from Oleg but with our dollar being so low. 56 US cents i would need to pay double his list price.
It does look very nice huh?
da or nyet?

You might be able to do some comparison shopping at Fedka.com

"Tiniest fungus" would make it a no-go for me.
If it looks brand new and has fungus probably means that it is not working correctly and therefore spent its life in some damp cellar.
Cheers,
Uwe

Hmm, the lens is removable so I would separate this into two decisions. The body does look good, so consider that first and then examine how much a lens will cost if needed. There are a lot of them out there ;-)

Don't worry about the fungus - it looks like a honest dealer. You can remove the lens and get another one for very little money.

All good points thanks very much.
I like the idea of buying in NZ then if the worst happens i can track the seller down and beat him with his useless camera
Seller does have a good reputation so I will keep watching and see what happens, either way i will most likely make the wrong decision

It's at $100(NZ) now, I guess that is $56(US).
Unless you can inspect it and return it, I would not get it.

At that price you could get two from fleabay and at worst, make one good one if neither turns out good.

The 4K were the last ones they made and therefore should be really mint. The camera looks ok though. Just put a nice Leitz lens on the camera and you are set and done.

Looks like a very nice one. I've bought more than a dozen Russian cameras in the last couple weeks. Suggesting you can buy lots of Zorki 4's on ebay for half $56 US dollars is surely not my experience. I have the bid on one right now for $49 plus shipping and think if I get it it will be a bargain. I have not paid less than $25 for any of the dozen cameras I've bought on ebay. Maybe I'm missing something or have come along at the wrong time.
I will say when I see suggestions that folks are paying way too much for something those suggestions are probably coming from folks who wouldn't sell such a piece for that little themselves.
Further I will tell you Yuri will charge you at least twice that much for a Zorki 4 in similar shape. I have two Russian cameras I have ordered from him that he is having checked out right now and I will tell you they are not close to that price. Go to his site and look at his prices. Spend a good bit of time on ebay now and see what these cameras are really going for. I can guarantee you, I will pay $56 for that camera right now, In fact, based on what I've been paying I might go double if the shipping isn't too high for one like that. Based on my short experience, the Zorki 4 is just a wonderful camera. How much is a wonderful camera, not to mention a piece of photography's heritage really worth. You'll know what it is worth to me if you read my post here.
Am I just another stupid American, with too much money, probably, there are lots of us who are driving prices up, I guess. Here is my thinking in that regard. There are a lot of folks in the Ukraine and Russia right how who are working their a$$es off trying to make some decent money on cameras they have taken the time to dig up and present well in ebay auctions. I have received six of them so far. None of them is perfect but all of them are able shooters. Most of them look quite nice, nearly as nice as that one. Some of them cost twice as much as that one, most pretty close to that price.
I say if that is the camera of your dreams you are crazy not to jump on it. Even if you got one for half that price, as the poster above suggests, you haven't saved any money to amount to anything. Is your pleasure worth $25 extra dollars, mine surely is.

A few posts ago you made a post titled "Is She the One" in reference to a Zorki.
Have you been dumped by a woman and now you're somehow transferring your anxieties and disapointment to a non-animate object?
1) They are not junk.
2) You bought a lens that takes excellent pictures and is a good Elmar copy for $5. How badly do you think you were cheated?

FSU rangefinders are going up in price, or is it just me?

If it's anywhere near as good as it looks it's a bargain - if you want an FSU camera. Buying from overseas will add maybe $35 to any other purchase - could be more. "Tiniest" bits of edge fungus probably means (a) not detectable in photos or (b) slight softness in corners at full aperture but otherwise undetectable or (c) have to get a Voigtlander, Leica or another FSU lens at worst.
Go for it!
