Is the Bessa -R a good rangefinder ?

i have black bessa r with 35mm skopar, love it!!!!

im starting to drool over the bessa R.. need to get my hands on it.

is the silver version of the Bessa R made of chrome or just paint work over some metal/ plastic ?

i would really love it to be chrome and not just some paint over something and be claimed to be chrome. cause if its Chrome, im buying it now

New Questions guys! ..

The chrome version of Bessa R.. is the chrome part made out of the same thing as you see on the Leica M6 ? Will it corote (rust or anything like that in the long term)

good message: it will never rust
Bad one: the covers are plastik (same with the black R)
The R2+ have metal ones.

damnit.. and i was hoping it to be chrome or atleast metal..
this means the color will fade and things like that..

hmm.. time to think over again ...
any good Bessa's with atleast neat chrome finish ?
and one below $400 ?

ow wait.. cancel that last post..

eventhough with a plastic top(and not chrome)

i bet its a really reliable camera and it handles knocks and bumps well..
So i'll take it.

so what if the color fades a little or rubs off. Are you buying a camera to use or display? I have a black one and so far its held up just fine.

Good choice.

If you want to see what a really well-used Bessa looks like, the picture above should give you a rough idea :) That was a camera that was already well-used when I received it, and then I dragged it across three continents ;) I did have to realign the rangefinder after a couple of particularly sharp bumps, but that can happen with any rangefinder camera (Leicas aren't free of that problem either). Otherwise the reliability of the Bessa R never disappointed me in any way.

Never mind the plastic. Oskar Barnack would have used plastic, had he had some.

Some of the lettering has worn off of my chrome finished R, but the finish itself is very much intact. I keep meaning to touch up the rubbed off letters with some paint ... I've had this camera for 3 years and bought it used from KEH. It's been through my Katrina evacuation and return, a couple of Hawaii trips, and a couple of weeks in Prague, not to mention frequent New Orleans visits to swamps, Mardi Gras, and second-line parades. It's a durable camera.

How far below? Cause $399 will get you a BRAND NEW one from camera quest with the 35/2.5! HERE

lol.. why was i even thinking of that. Im going to be using it and it will never be a display item.

but guys i've been looking at camera quest and Mr. gandy said that its a USA warranty. how does that effect international buyers ? im from Malaysia and the nearest official dealer is in Singapore but its cheaper to get off camera quest (so that is my choice). he's yet to reply to my email about this.

thanks all.

The Bessa R with 35/2.5 is my choice :D and will buy it right now
