Is the hood on 25/4 good enough?

Kevin, I'm looking at my lens and the stuff that came with it. The "instruction manual" is just a leaflet which describes what the various bits of the lens are, its very very basic, and you are not missing much by not having it!! The two lines you mention are the depth of field at 4.5. this lens is very easy to get used to, I set the infinity mark (the "8" on its side ) next to the value of the aperture I'm using to get the max depth of field. You really don't need R/F coupling the depth of field is huge. f4.5 its from about 5feet to infinity, at f16 about 10inches to infinity.

in this shot the leading edge of the gate was about 18inches from the camera, it was shot at f11. I would recommend a spirit level to fit on top of the camera, its easy to get very tilted horizons. The one in this shot is actually level, I used a spirit level, its just the shape of the hill that make it look tilted.

Great shot John. This is the sort of shot I tend to look for--low angles with leading lines. I will just have to remember not to line-up the infinity mark with the number 4.5 when shooting at that aperture.

I will have to post some shots from this lens when I get it. Wait! I don't own a scanner! Can anyone recommend a good scanner? Flatbed or film only?
