Leica LTM Is the LTM market *that* bad right now?

Leica M39 screw mount bodies/lenses
A best practices sticky for sending things to Europe would be great!
I got my IIIc from Keith that I am very content with and have with me at the office right at the moment and I got a VC 35/2,5 from the classifieds.....
In Austria it seems to me sometimes that there are no rules but simple greed as the. At least they accept PAPAL ( no PayPAL but Papal would be funny)printouts as documentation for value.

I'll admit that the If RD sparked my interest - I have a IIIf with a rather dim rangefinder which is a full-time mount for either a 12mm Ultra-Wide Heliar or a 25mm Snapshot-Skopar, and a half-baked plan to mate it with a If to get the full range of shutter speeds - but financially the timing's wrong. Sod's Law strikes again. :(

Youxin replaced the beamsplitter in three of my Leica III series, a III, IIIa, and IIIf in the last few months. Came out great, very reasonable charge.

Me Too! Done. All finished. Picked up a Black Leica III, Leica IIIa, Rollei 35TE, Rolleiflex IV, and Canon P in the last month. Spent $60 on used cameras last month. Done. Nothing left to do but hack more lenses.

Unless I find more $15 Leica's.

Brian, where do you find all those great deals? Have a contact at all the antique and junque stores in No. Virginia?

I haven't seen a IIIG go through the classifieds for a long time ... the last one that got sold was a bit of a bargain from memory though a little rough! I think about selling mine now and then but I'm not sure that I'd get the money I want for it at the moment?

Does anyone have an opinion an what a near mint example is worth? They seem to be a little out there in regard to price compared to other LTM's!

I just got a Leotax Elite to go with my new L1, but now have a serious urge for a Fuji TX-1. It didn't help my GAS that I saw one today in Seoul w/ a 40 mm lens for 1.7M Won ($1,400). Damn!!!!

It's youxin, not youxon. I had my IIIf CLA'd by him and works great! and I just had my M3 CLA'd by him with same decent quality.

I need the full range of speeds more than I need the rangefinder, since it's only used with scale-focus lenses, or wide-to-normal lenses in conditions where scale-focussing is not only practical but often preferrable. I have enough Ms to satisfy my RF focussing urges :). What I love about the IIIf is the pocketability (OK - and the fact that it's beautiful), which is why a souped-up If appeals.

Shop was on the way home from work, decided to pull in. The force is with me.

My older IIIf was capping at 500 and 1000, Youxin fixed it right up. It is "cost effective" to have the beamsplitter replaced at the same time as the CLA. The delta in price is well worth it.

Bought a CV50mm yesterday from a RFF member that was selling his RD1s and 5 lenses. It was not a problem for him to ship overseas and even help on the customs declaration value. The deal was done and paid in 30 minutes. All the rest of his lenses were all gone in one day apparently. So when correctly priced, and with some flexibility from the seller, there is a market.

I just received a J-3 from Russia today, sent via registered Air Mail. This one took a little longer to receive, close to three weeks. I've seen it go from 1 week to 4 weeks. But I've never had one lost or damaged.

Hello all

here are my two cents around the situation on the LTM market.
I believe that we are now in a period of change, change in two ways;
-the generation of original LTM owners is dying in an alarming rate
-LTM cameras and analog cameras in general are loosing their importance in the world of people who actually take pictures.

In other words, the market is full but there are less potential customers. The result is... dropping prices.
No for me this is absolutely super great because I am a collector (sporadic user) and I am buying:D Over the last 10 months I have bought all my Leicas and some more stuff (Contax, B&H, etc...)
Every coin has two sides they say over here, mine is the sunny side right now.

cheers
Uwe

.........well if what the`re saying is true, it`ll be nice to see a $800 to $1200 Leica IIIC K Grey cameras again (1980/85) prices, does that mean Nikkor LTM`s going to go down too, like to $100 or less a lens? :)

I don`t believe it.......

In the past 6 months I`ve seen a stable decline in average gear prices and the rarer stuff keeps getting rarer and rare, yet more expensive

........did anyone see the Leitz Hektor 73mm the other night sell for $1,200?
(that was a $300 lens in the 1980`s)

There`s your answer ;)

The disparity in auction pricing between USA-only sales and those open to international bidding on similar items highlights the current weakness of the dollar. IMO the weak dollar will keep average prices high - in dollars. For the time being.

As Fred suggested there are some bits that have become more rare, collectable and desirable over time, and these will stay expensive. Others, perhaps like garden-variety Leica Barnack bodies, may drop in price. I know I am less likely to pay a lot for one lately. "Recent CLA" or not, at 50+ years-old I know I am going to spend an additional $200-$400 sooner or later after purchase.

I also collect and trade vintage audio tubes. For comparison, the market was red-hot five yars ago, but collapsed and has never recovered. Will this happen with LTM cameras? Time will tell, but time is unsparing.

The market is good for buyers and sellers right now.
I have bought well and I have sold well. This is my own story, so it is true.

It takes sometimes a lot of patience and concentration to get really good buys. I have been getting good buys with most of what I have been buying for the past 15 years or so. This also implies that I will be able to sell well to someone else.

You buy poorly, you will be stuck with overpriced items.

I don't think it's just this forum. I've been watching EBay closing prices, and they seem down from what you might expect. Not only LTM items, but all things rangefinder.

Perhaps, but with certain exceptions. Since the Noctilux was discontinued, the price has soared. I sold mine when the going rate was $2000. I just watched one go on eBay for $6000. (sigh) If I wanted another, I couldn't touch it right now for the current prices.

But I think this is a bubble. they will come down.

I used the Noctilux money to buy a Tri-Elmar, for $1600. It, too, was discontinued. They are now flirting with $3000.00 territory. This, too, is probably a bubble.

OF course, these are not LTM items, but I'm responding to the "all things rangefinder" part.
