is the site slow?

It's probably because of the piles of festive items building up at the bottom of the screen!

Cheers, Ian

It may be a little slow but nothing too bad... I have been on a dial up connection with 5-6 browser windows open all morning & not thought it was out of the ordinary.

This isn't meant as criticism, but this has always been the slowest site I access. It's worth it though...

I could get rid of all the gallery random images, classifieds, etc ... It will make loading the front page faster. But every time I do that everyone has a fit. By the way, it is fast for me .

Don't get rid of anything. Especially not the cameras piling up a the bottom of the screen. I've found some nice ones there.

I like it as is. I suppose the speed has to do with the machine your running as well. Jorge? Any falling menorahs available?

YES. It is the forum software IMO. I have dial up. and this the SLOWEST Photo Forum site I visit. DPReview is faster, And they have plenty of Adver. on it too.

It should be faster.. could be the servers, not able to quickly respond to page demands. or maybe the in ground cables can't handle the Band width of the area this located in. With all the other WWW stuff from other users.

Comcast in the USA had double the band width from 10 million ghz to 20 million ghz just to handle the high speed commumity and TV signals going through the same Cables across the country.

Timed the preview...30 seconds,. Typical for my area in Indiana, USA. for THIS web site

2nd preview was 5 seconds. I would guess some caching involved too.

Still a great place to hang out though. I have dumped DPReview. :D

send me a link to a falling menorah and I will get it in the random images that come down.

it's really slow...... unbearable...

I've just looked what requests this screen makes (just simple refresh and Firebug extension installed) and.... surprise, surprise.... 514kB!!!!!!! and 96 separate requests to the server..... way overhead...

...and the first page is cca 766kB

maybe finding some lighter skin for forum, and optimizing size of ads!

...and there is one more problem, avatars are generated probably from database, so every time page is refreshed... they require separate request and browser can't save them in cache because of that... so additional 100-200kb every time for the same pictures... ;(
