Is there a cure?

I've owned quite a bit of equipment these last 5 years of shooting RF's. I recently left the film world for an Epson RD-1. Yet, I keep looking back at some of my MF Velvia 50 shots taken with my now sold Mamiya 7 with 80mm lens. And the more I look, the more I long for the feel of that camera in my hands... Alas, is there a cure? I am pretty happy with my Epson. Not as high quality as the M6 with slide film, but pretty close. I think I am happy in the 35mm world. I just keep on wanting to get back into MF. Tell me, is there a pill I can take? Therapy? What is the cure? I've been saving money for a new laptop or desktop, but now maybe it will be a Nikon 9000 and a Mamiya 7II. If only I did not hate scanning so much.

Mamiya 7s in the UK (new) are now over double the price from a few months ago. Glad I have my Bronica RF645 though - no substitute for 120.

Wonderful photos btw.
 
No pills :) but I think I am going to be happy with a Mamiya 645 AFD, at half the price of a Mamiya 7II, it's a good compromise.

I had a mamiya 645 1000s, sold it, miss it.

Good pictures, btw.
 
There is no easy cure......... two paths you can go down to find a cure.

First is you can plunk down $2K for the new Bessa or a bit less for this one.......

Reasonably portable good option.

Second changes your life for ever....... Pick up a clean Crown Graphic and go 4x5. As much as 6x6 is a step up from 35, damm 4x5 is a step beyond that.

Neither path is easy, but both can be lots of fun.

Love my MF cameras. I have the Mamiya 6 and 7II. I'll never sell either.
 
Got to admit, now my Mamiya is back from service and after I tried to reaquaint myself with my Leicas, I just think my Mamiya 7ii was built for me. I love the camera, format, and all its quirks.

But you know all about why its so cool!
 
Thanks for the responses.... I am looking at the Mamiya 7ii's that are on ebay, waiting for a good deal. If the deal is good, I'll bite.

I did think about this. There is actually one in the classifieds right now. One thing I like about the Mamiya 7 is the incredible lenses. That 80mm is as sharp as a razor. Also very easy to carry with you. I will be looking at eBay for the Crown Graphics as well though. Who knows what I will decide.
 
I feel like you are trying to spread your disease by posting those pictures, not trying to find a cure!

I was perfectly content in my little 35mm world, having finally felt I didn't immediately need any more gear, and what happens? You post some amazing pics.
 
I think your photos give you the answer ... you are doomed, the sickness is terminal.

I wish I had not looked at them, either ... now I am thinking about Mamiya 6 or 7 and TMY-2, Tri-X, FP-4+ ... thanks for infecting me. :bang:
 
The disease is the cure. I remember looking at my first MF chromes on a light table and thinking, "I will never shoot a 35mm camera again." Of course I did, and digital at that, but the disease lingers. Get a Fuji 6x9 MF fixed lens if you want to try something cheaper. Incredible lens and the 6x9 has even more impact, but the camera is about the same size as a Mamiya 7ii. I have the Mamiya and will never sell it. The quality of the images is just jaw dropping.

Where did you take your wilderness photos? (They are superb!) I had a friend who used to carry a medium format camera into the High Sierras when we used to hike there. Alot braver than I. I only carried a little 35mm P&S film camera.

Many thanks on the comments... I was talking to a friend from work about photography before posting this thread and explaining the beautiful world of RF's. As I showed her some of my work, the MF pics seemed to stand out the most to me. That got me back to thinking and looking at all my old slides. I am pretty much set on getting that Mamiya 7 again, with the coolscan 9000 sometime in the future. To pay my friend back for reinfecting me and forcing me to spend this money, I think I will make her convert to RF photography. That will show her! :D

No cure for GAS, especially once it progresses to the MF stage. Even on my dinky iPod touch those look fantastic!
 
I've been viewing on a Touch as well. Do I dare view on the big screen? The girls with kittens shot is wonderful.
 
Wow ... that shot of the boats is something else! This stuff makes 35mm seem puny in comparison which I know it's not because it has it's advantages ... BUT! :p
 
All the pics are lovely, but the girls with Kittens is just a classic.

I ran into a thread like this about 6 months ago when I was trying to figure out how to reconcile my love of rangefinder shooting with my MF affinity and find a camera that I could easily travel with. My Hassy is great, but air travel with it these days is not fun.

I became intrigued with the M7II and finally convinced my better half to let me spring for a new one from Badger. I made the purchase and within 12 hours the price had virtually doubled -- no joke. I instantly called Badger to confirm that I had paid the original price, and whew, had just missed that price jump. 99/100 I would have decided to buy a day later :rolleyes: .

In any case, it is a unique system that I really enjoy and when coupled to my Gitzo traveler and ACratech ball head it's a fantastic travel set.

If you live next to a big city keep an eye on Craigslist, they do show up there...

Whoa bro! those pics are phenomenal, sharpness and clarity that defy description.

I have an M7 II with 80/4 and I'm jealous ;)

I went to AK last year with my MP and a digi P&S, should've hauled the Mamiya with me, great shots!

You know the answer to the question so pull the plug and get another Mamiya, those are gorgeous shots!
