It sounds like i´m about to buy a black FM3a with a 45mm, new in box or hardly used, the guy had 3 of them . . .
anyway sounds to me that the black ones especially the 45mm nikkor p kit is a bit, lets say pricy, at least here in norway,
or if bought off e**y for that sake.

So here I am, willing to admit, Hi my name is vidar, and I bought a expensive FM3a because I wanted a black one :D

In my kind of defense i have a FM with a battery eating meter (2 hours a set) and a silver 45mm nikkor p, and
everyone knows for sure that black finish give better photos ;) (and if not mr Rockwell probably would claim so one day :p)

Who´s next to stand up and confess?

black 45p is "collectible". good luck finding one for less than $300.
I have to admit the black fm3a + black 45p takes better pictures for sure

Black cameras take more contemporary photos, chrome cams impart a more vintage look to the pix. So of course you should have both.

Darn! Have to find a chrome one then, but what about the FM2/T, what style does that provide? ;)

However, my black Nikkormat doesn't need the special setting.

Actually,

Actually,

There is a full blown 12 step program for all Nikon/Nikkormat owners, same as for Leica.

The leica guys never told me about theirs, but I can see the zuiko gang have a tread, but with only a XA I can´t join in there :)

With a Zuiko lens on the XA ... why not? :D

Alright, I have a black FM3a with a Zeiss 85mm 1.4 takes tac sharp photos. I love the sound of the motor drive as well, it's much cheaper than a second or third wife or a girlfriend for that matter.

I too was seduced by the siren call of the FM3A ... black also!

Then I had to spend more money getting a Zeiss Planar 50mm f1.4 for it! :bang:

Is it just me or are Ebay sellers starting to ask stupid prices for FM3A's ... black or chrome. I keep seeing them constantly with BIN prices a fair bit higher than what they were worth new ... and not always mint!

I'm currently watching a couple of real users on Oz eBay at the moment ... one is really grubby and has a serial number engraved on the back and the other is an ex government camera and has something wrong with film rewind (minor) and also looks like sh!te!

edit ... having just noticed the FM3A and motordrive combo above, has me now scanning eBay for an MD12. :p

Oops... my fault! :D

I got my black FM3A in mint condition with box and papers for $600. Some online sellers are pricing the black FM3A at exorbitant prices. Only those desperate for a FM3A succumb to those prices but everyone values things differently so it is not for me to say if it is expensive or affordable. I feel that one has to be patient when looking for a good one at a reasonable price. The beautifully finished chrome FM3A sells for much less and is easily available on evil bay though. But I prefer shopping at camera stores rather than on the internet.

Almost the same that I have to pay for the black FM3a, like new or there about, and then the the black 45mm p, would say it´s a bit pricey compared to what I can get for the same amount of money, but when It is what I want at the moment (still a FM2/T but prefer two kidneys :D)
And if I look long term at it it should last for ages, repairing a FM or a FM2 in Norway is expensive. And don't forget you get these fancy gold paper-boxes to play with too . .

So all in all not a bad deal (so there i have a excellent reason to buy it)

As they say, you have to spend the money before it disappears :D

First, you folks should stop talking before I have to buy a Zeiss 50 ZF.

Second, is the FM3a really different from the FM2n? (aside from "new" and "electronic shutter", which I can totally live without).

Actually, I hardly use my SLRs, so I am not that drawn in... yet...

Beware David,

The FM3a is perhaps the last GREAT film SLR made. The GAS pull is UBBER strong in that one!

So much great glass, old & new Nikkors, ZN, CV SL II, it boggles the mind.

give in......errrr...I mean be strong, resistance if futile..;)
