Is there a Fm3a support group? ;D

Shameless plug:

I'm selling a BLACK 45/2.8P in the classifieds, and I don't think it's that exorbitantly priced! I think I could get more via e-bay, but I like you guys. :)

In that case shall I suggest a Voigtlander Apo Lanthar or a Chamonix 4x5, or why not both? :D

Thank ghu I just got an 8x10... (Actually, I don't have a 4x5 field camera... just a press... Dammit).

The Chamonix looks really nice.

I too was seduced by the siren call of the FM3A ... black also!

Then I had to spend more money getting a Zeiss Planar 50mm f1.4 for it! :bang:

IMG_3606.jpg

I had no idea Zeiss had made a T* 50mm f/1.4 planar in Nikon mount. I have the Contax/Yashica mount. That is truely one sharp lens.

Is it just me or are Ebay sellers starting to ask stupid prices for FM3A's ... black or chrome. I keep seeing them constantly with BIN prices a fair bit higher than what they were worth new ... and not always mint!

I'm currently watching a couple of real users on Oz eBay at the moment ... one is really grubby and has a serial number engraved on the back and the other is an ex government camera and has something wrong with film rewind (minor) and also looks like sh!te!

edit ... having just noticed the FM3A and motordrive combo above, has me now scanning eBay for an MD12. :p

They have been mentioned recently on RFF threads. That always drives up the price of anything. If I ever decide to sell any of my camera gear, I will be sure to start some threads about how good it is on as many forum sites as I can. Within a couple of weeks, the ebay prices will jump (when using ebay one needs to check an almanac for the tides and moon phases, of course). I think it would even work for plastic fixed shutter speed cameras with coke bottles for lenses.

Ciao Keith
nice to see you with both FM3a and ZF 50 ! I hadn't attended too much RFF lately.. how has been your experience with this combo so far ?

It may be possible to use the FM3A screen in the earlier bodies with interchangeable screens.

It certainly is possible to use an FM3A screen (three types to choose from) in any of the FE or FM series Nikons (even the original FM if you're prepared to do some disassembling).

oh ...how right you are!!!!!!!!

it astounds me how people talk up cameras and are surprised (almost by sheer coincidence--would never happen would it?!) at the prices they fetching lately...there are places to get these things much cheaper fair prices but sometimes RFF seems a place that has the definite side effect (hopefully not on purpose!) of increasing GAS for a particular model cam!

it surely is an absolute fact that i have tested over and over again (not from selling but from watching prices) with many camera...

fm3a is worth about what Keith paid for his ($300+++au bucks from memory), the stupid prices are for the geeks that cant hold out and believe all this rot that everything is rare and impossible to get, bought one of these myself not that long ago brand new for peanuts, if it wasn't against my values i think i should sell for the stupid dollars asked lately....its just not that good of a camera eh!!!

psssssst the word is that all this "FM3a talk" at RFF has caused prices to rise! now's your chance to sell your FM3a and make a killing ;)

I think we over rate the importance of RFF in the grand scheme of things at times.

I heard that the Democrats lost the seat of Massachusetts held by the late Ted Kennedy because of some loose talk here ... but I have to say, I seriously doubt that!

The Chamonix looks really nice.

Sold my crown graphic since i, well have some other large format cameras and the money is useful for a FM3a i think.
8x10 would be a summer project in a year or two, an old kodak or some
budget friendly gear if such thing exists :)

A somewhat reasonable alternative to the pricey Nikon 45/2.8 P AIS is the Voigtlander 40/2.0 AIS, both are in the pancake profile.

I've got a CV 40 Ultron for use on a d700 and f3.
Great lens, small and sharp and reasonable bokeh.

Unfortunately it's got a fair amount of distortion.

All this talk convinced me to buy a Nikon FM3A. I should have it by the weekend. If the weather permits I will shoot some frames at the Chinese New Year parade this weekend.

Congratulations ... I'm sure you'll like it. :)

The more I use mine the more I realise how totally superior ir is to my OM!

(just kidding Chippy!) :D

No FM3a yet, bummer, think the guy who I had the deal with pulled back the deal for main reason higher price, as if it was not high enough to start with.
Would start looking for a Black FM3a soon after getting rid of some bags, they literally takes too much area ..
A black FM3a and a chrome 45mm p would be a fine mix I think.

Suddenly the siren´s song reappeared, or lets say I stumbled in it ;)
Tomorrow there is a Leica R8 with winder and a 50 cron in the mail for me :D
And the best part? Cheap, at least according to Norwegian terms, half the price of what I was supposed to pay for the FM3a w/45mm nikkor p, and the R8 is in black finish.
Didn´t we agree black cameras too the best photos? ;)

I recently acquired a FM2n, can I participate in this thread? I always wanted an FM3a, but couldn;t afford one, so the FM2n seems pretty kick ass. Using a classic 50mm 1.4 AIS which was a favorite lens of mine to use on my old Olympus E1 DSLR, so finally getting a chance to use it with film. First roll processing now.

Can't see any reason why you can't play with us ... you obviously appreciate how good the FM3A is and that's enough for me! :D

It's pretty funny ... I'd had my 3A for a couple of weeks before I realised it has this clever little method of showing you your f stop in the viewfinder, with a little viewer that actually sees the aperture ring.

Always wondered what that was for when I first got the camera! :p
