It is exciting but in no way objectively justifiable. In March I exchanged my Shen Hao for a newer, shinier 4x5 and that was supposed to put paid to my GAS for 2010. I'll confess that with this F6 I acted out of fear - fear that pretty soon new stocks might become scarcer. If I was going to treat myself it had to be new one so I'll say it was a case of grab it while I can!

A couple of places do even list it in their inventory anymore, so I don't think new stock will be around much longer. I considered selling mine in an effort to pare down the collection, but then I ran a roll of Ilford 50 through it and got such outstanding metering with it that I quickly disregarded that notion; besides, I have a dozen rolls of Kodachrome left and I think they are all going into the F6. Maybe a couple into to FM3a. Either way, it's going to be a good summer for shooting.

Riverman, congrats, that's another lifetime camera ! I stated several times (without any afterthought) that my F6 must be my last camera I sell among all what I have (if I ever do that)

I always thought that the fm fe series cameras felt cheap and nasty. Performance, reliability and strength aside, which has of course been proven over time, I just feel that they are cheap feeling. They're just not in the same league as the F's and F2's. My favorite film slr is my F.

Wow surprised to hear this. I have an F and an F2, no doubt, they rock and are as sturdy as it goes, but my plethora of FM's and the like have been nothing short of absolute workhorses. Good looking, compact and now relagated to the front of the bus especially the versatile FM3a.

One thing that has impressed me with my FM3A is it's metering. In AE mode shooting on the street or in a situation where I just want the shot without faffing about with settings it has been superb and has rarely let me down!

As an owner of a FE and FM, the only thing keeping me immune with all this FM3a talk is the fact I am currently employment challenged. If I was working, I would be trolling Ebay auctions right now. I have been drawn to the FM3a the day it was introduced and was disappointed when Nikon decided to discontinue the camera a few years back.

I'm a Brit and can confirm that faffing is one of those peculiarly British phenomena.
So... my F6 arrived today. It's a beauty and I can't wait to shoot with it. The user manual is a little daunting for a newcomer to autofocus. The camera apparently does so much and there are so many more variables than when shooting with my FM3a. I'm half expecting the F6 to wash the dishes after I finish dinner tonight!

I felt this way when I got my D700 ... then I realised it's a trick to make you think that there's more to photography than aperture shutter speed and focus!
I'll have to admit 'matrix metering' is pretty amazing though!

Almost ...yes, made in Oz and starring our own Hugo Weaving and Keanu something or other from somewhere else!
I read a while ago, on the Nikon site from memory, just how matrix metering works. Pure genius ... but still capable of being fooled occasionally ... like a few on this forum actually!

Matrix metering was one of the appealing features for me of the F6. If it's as good as people say I can't wait to start pointing and shooting some transparency. I've already stocked up on Provia and Astia.
