I think it's ok to use uncommon antiques. But rare items should be used less often, perhaps just once in a while. A rare guitar isn't gigged with because it can be dropped, scratched, have beer thrown on it, etc. But it can be played carefully at home. I wouldn't buy that zero miles Suzuki just to become my daily driver. Paying the high price means you want the high value. I do use rare lenses all the time though.
