Is there an "Ignore" function on this site?

I must admit, I am a little confused by your point here. You say you do not wish to ignore members but rather reduce screen clutter. I am not sure that ignoring particular threads or forums would do that. In any case you go on to say that you have no interest in dRFs and yet a a quick search of your posting history shows a surprisingly high post count in the M8 threads. Mind you some of those posts are rather repetitious as you say. ;)

Why not just leave the Leica, Canon, MF, LF etc forums shut?

Actually, I was least interested in the Ignore Member aspect - but included it only for completeness sake in describing my query.

I am mainly interested in an Ignore Forum function because I would like to reduce the screen clutter.

I have absolutely no interest in digital RF's and find that there are numerous threads in that forum - most of which are repetitious etc. (e.g. I just got it, It doesn't work, I just got a replacement, Look at this... etc.).

My RF's are limited to Nikons (and CV R2S "clones") but I like to read about other film gear and general topics - so a selective "Ignore Forum" tool would be very nice to have.

Oh yes, ManGo, I did get this concept from APUG - but why would that bother you so much? I don't think the concept is unique to that site - in fact I think it's a regular feature of the kind of software that drives most of these kinds of sites.

Anyway, apparently the feature doesn't exist here.

Just click below, and make it your home page.

After all, this is Nikon RF month.

Thank you, Brian, for the suggestion. It is a work around; but more limiting than what I'd like.

My point is that there are software tools that exist that would enable one to tailor the view of the site but they are not made available here.

I enjoy seeing many threads other than the Nikon forum, so I find your suggestion too limiting. Meanwhile, there are other sites that hold no interest for me.

Your response here was posted 12 hours after my last one. Because of the many fora and threads here, and the intervening posts during that time it meant going through five pages of posts for me to find yours.

If I could selectively IGNORE certain fora - it would probably have reduced that by about one-half.

If everyone else did the same, tailoring the site to their interests/needs, the bandwidth savings would be significant. And, as a side benefit, there would probably be less negativity in many fora and threads.

to ignore has to be the simplest of 'real' options.

just ignore.

if the screen is too congested for you then i think there are worse problems in life.

yep, don't like the negativity of this thread at all. Just ignore what you want to, otherwise, like our blunter neighbors across the pond would say, sod off.
BTW, I'm dadsm3, and I'd be honoured to be the first member on your ignore list. See ya'.

having an ignore option for persons i find childish.
If someone talks to you in a group, out on the street, between friends, at work etc, do you ignore him??

Having an ignore option for threads, titles, subjects or keywords in the title etc could be useful. Like when the M8 threads were clogging up the first pages of the rff, that was slightly annoying to me who was absolutely not interested in the business. This is no offense to the ones who were interested in those threads, it's just that i wish i had an option to see the rest of the threads on the first pages, instead.

I used to think ignoring people, whether "live" or "virtual", was childish. The older I get, the more I see it as a useful tool to my equanimity; but I use it very sparingly. To each his own.

I'll never ignore you, Jenni. You know good wine. :D

totally OT but what ever happened to the wine thread here at RFF. PM me a few of your faves when you get a chance?

I am frustrated to find that you are continuing to misrepresent my point.

Athena,
Yes, several folks are (and my one post so far did). But your original message asked about ignoring a user/thread/forum. Not just the latter two, much less just the last one. I am sorry that everyone keeps misinterpreting, but bear in mind that you, yourself, had to clarify. Perhaps there is just a lag in understanding that clarification. :)

Photo.net has a feature of which you speak. But, then again, they are running off of aol servers so they are a weeeee bit old in terms of technology. I wonder if vBulletin has a ready-made plug-in for this.

Personally, and still not to your topic (seriously, I am sorry), I don't think ignoring certain folks is childish. This is not my work place, so there is no need for professional burying of hatchet. This is not a social gathering which I have invited people to and included people I didn't mean to but now much be civil with. Some folks come in an trample things. I prefer to not listen to them. I don't use it much.
