is there an LTM 50 that does not intrude

into the viewfinder of my IIIf?
my 50/2.5 color skopar intrudes enough to make careful framing on a static shot a bit of a guessing game. i suppose a separate viewfinder would take care of this also but that would take away some the compactness that makes a barnack so fun to use.

I think the 5cm f3.5 Elmar is about as small it gets Paul ... I have one that I use on my Leica ll occasionally. It was a 'red scale' that I picked up off ebay for $120.00 because it had been dropped and the front bezel was a little bent ... no big deal it straightened easily.

They are a very good lens ... though the aperture adjustment is a little tedious.

What Keith said. The Elmar 50/3.5 is distinctly smaller than the 2.8 version you previously used. I often use a 50 accessory finder on my IIIc, though, w/ my 50 Skopar.

The previously mentioned Elmar is smaller in diameter than the CV50f2.5 but it sticks out farther so it's a wash. There is nothing more compact than the lens you already have.

Remove the hood from the Skopar.(but maybe keep a filter on) - That may help. I have the 50/2.5 Skopar and the 50/3.5 Elmar and think the Skopar is worth the problem.

Might look at that 2.8 canon ltm. I don't know, but it looks pretty small...

A vented hood helps somewhat. Since the lens only intrudes on the center of the view finder, it helps to frame based on the bottom corners.

No, it's the bottom right corner that gets obstructed on a IIIf.

correct. and it is the aperture ring mostly that intrudes; the front ring/hood take up a much smaller total space than the aperture ring.

I went through this exercise 5 or 6 years ago. The Canon 50/1.5 intruded less than the 50/1.8 Chrome. I also have the 50/3.5 Elmar. Of course COLLAPSED the Elmar is shorter. But not when extended. The Jupiter-3 is slightly longer than the Canon.

The rigid Industar-22 might fit the bill. I've never seen one in the "flesh" (aluminum), though. Can anybody confirm?

Bit of an academic answer, anyway, as it's rare and seems to be fetching collector prices.

perhaps i need to get a 35mm viewfinder and swap the 50/2.5 color skopar on the IIIf with the 35/2.5 color skopar on my R2m.

I have a very nice 35mm viewfinder. Alas, it comes in the original case along with the Canon 35mm/2.8 lens. I absolutely GUARANTEE that tiny gem of a lens won't protude into the finder. At least not with the original hood (also in the case) removed.

Yep, 35mm lenses are shorter than 50mm ones. The Summaron f3.5 comes to mind.
