is there an online guide to service a fed 3B

Just wondering if anyone knows if there is an online guide on servicing a FED 3B,
Also does anyone have good ideas for a lenscap for on industar panda lens or know where I could find one, or make one.

Well, Rick Oleson has drawings on how to dismantle the FED 3B:
http://rick_oleson.tripod.com/index-58.html. Following them I managed to take the top of my FED 3B to clean the prisms and then put everything back together again successfully.

A M42 rear lens cap and some tape works pretty well as a (front) lens cap for the Industar 61.

I was looking at doing that to clean the viewfinder, clean out all the old grease and generally clean up the camera, and get the winder to be nice and slick it is a bit sticky as is the lens. I dont think it had been used in a while still had an old film in it from the seller.

Are there any springs and things that will fly out and away??

Not as far as I remember but I can check my notes when I'm back from work.
Two things to to watch out for, though: (i) don't separate the frame counter mechanism (at least not without taking notes) and (ii) remember/note what shutter speed the camera was set to so that you can reattach the shutter speed selector in the right way. (However, I don't think you can dissasemble it with the shutter armed (without tripping it) so you'll have to reattach the shutter speed knob last after arming the shutter again.)

Thanks again, would appreciate you telling me from your notes of any problems, and thanks for the hint about the shutter speed. One question on your camera what does the wind feel like is it tight or quite a silky wind. I know it will be hard to describe but please try

Well, my FED 3 is not the best point of comparison, IRC the film advance was fairly heavy and a bit gritty, the shutter seemed[0] to have too much tension and was capping at short times.

[0]I messed with the curtain tensions later but did not manage to get the shutter to run without insane curtain tension and a rat catcher-like sound..
It certainly needs a more thorough overhaul.

One peculiar thing was the three washers I found below the shutter speed knob. Apparently it would sit to low without them.. :rolleyes:

i was borred yesterday so i dissasambled one malfunctioning (speeds, and vf) fed 3b :)

vf looked like it was pinched in with something, but when i opened it i discovered that prism (two prisms glued together to be exact) are glued in that manner... so it seams that it was made broken... image in vf looks like this [ |], two thirds are image in front, and second third is image getting in from the direction of rf.... when i tried to align the prism with front plate i only saw image from the rf, whole front image was moved to the left... beyond point of sight....

btw, my speed knob doesn't have washers...

whole asembley looks pretty bad :) like it was assambled in a barn...

Thanks for that - I will try it - But I still have the problem of the takeup spool - I saw a site that showed how to make one from a film canister, however a spool from Ilford and one from Kodak are too small, the iside doesnt fit the metal thing in the camera.
Any ideas? or where to find an original?

I bought one from Alex-Photo on e-Bay. I just sent him a message and asked him. Cost was around $7 and it took only 7 days to the U.S.
