But this is still subjective, and is an opinion of the person doing the assessing, IMO.

If a criticism is reasoned then it is justified; if it has the benefit of techinical experience, it may even be veridical to the facts. And if it is both it is more than just opinion. Spelling out your reasons for making a particular criticism is harder (and it takes time) but all the more informative to the interested party.
