... than an SLR with a normal lens?
i'm talking single focal length here; leave yer zooms in the case ...
from 12-18 inches (closer, if you're talking macro normal) to infinity.

Hi, Paul..
That is precisely why I picked up the Leica R4 and a 50mm Cron. Having used my Nikons for 40 years, I now have a bag kitted for Leica and a separate bag kitted for the Nikons.
The only difference is the Leica bag which incorporates the M3 instead of another SLR.
Versatility. That is what I have to have while on location.

Nope .

The best camera is one that still works!
I agree to a point ... but for exploiting the total versatility of an SLR you must use a zoom!
That said ... I don't like zooms but they do have their uses occasionally where a prime is no go.

I agree with Paul here. Rolleiflex SL35 with a CZ 50mm 1.4 Planar is a set made in heaven.

I dare say not. In fact they are so good at their job they are boring IMO. I prefer going about things the hard way these days, much more rewarding when things turn out OK.

Shaken, so blurred
Me, I like an SLR with normal, a wide angle and a telephoto available (with a macro or near-macro option nice to have as well). That having been said, the normal gets much of the use. I'm currently liking my FM3a and CV 40/2 Ultron.

Yeah, I have been carrying the FM3a quite a bit with me. It is fun to shoot, and for walks where I am just bopping around and shooting what I see, a normal lens is all I need.

And let's not forget that it was Stephen who gave us the dedicated X100 forum ... he must have known what a feeding frenzy that would turn into and figured he better offer the space and venue for what was to follow!

My newly acquired M2 and Nokton 50mm 1.5 ( if you don't count close focus ability - Nokton focuses only to ,9m)!!!

I must say that my D300 or F6 with the 24-70mm 2.8 Nikkor is one awesome swiss army knife of a setup. I rarely use it, however, outside of the racing environment I shoot in.
