Is there anyone shooting 6X7 anymore?

Been a long time since any posts re the fantastic mamiya 6/7 system. I can't believe the ease of use and the astounding quality afforded by this system. It's like having a Leica on steroids! Best lenses bar none and the dead nuts silence of the shutter beats the Leica all to heck. Truly a stealth camera.
I scanned some shots of buildings in downtown Indianapolis on TMY and scanned them. The inkjet prints just glow with depth and tonality. Can't imagine not having this camera around. Digital can't match this quality...yet. Maybe medium format backs but who can afford them? My only 'issue' is I can't find a 50mm for the 7 yet that I can afford. Anyone know of one? Thanx,

Well, I don't shoot as much of anything as much as I used to. But I can't imagine what would entice me to give up my 6x7. And I do love my 50mm lens. My camera is quiet but probably not as quiet as yours, since mine is a Super Press 23. Three shots in my gallery are from the Super Press 23 when it was still fairly new over 30 years ago. What I pine for is a 250mm lens. I have yet to find one of those that I am willing to spend the asking price for. You have to understand. I am one of the original cheap charlies. I paid less than $50 for my pristine 50mm (less finder). Of course I don't expect to ever get a deal like that on a 250mm. That was a special from a very kind pro who had switched to another system and had no use for it (it was orphaned) and felt sort of sorry for me.

I will plan to keep using my Omega Rapid and lenses, you can be sure. Not a stealth camera; while it's a lens shutter camera, the pull-push film advance is rather noticeable. And not so long ago I got a Pentax 67 and a couple of lenses, which I plan to use much more. That one is most assuredly not a stealth camera!

I have always had severe lust for the 6 or 7, but the one thing that kept me off of it is the close focus distance of them. That's one thing I can say I notice with the RF's I've handled. The big ol' GS-1 gets me my 6x7 jollies instead.

Instead of the Leica M7, I got the Mamiya M7. AE and leaf-shutter silent, what more can you ask for? Oh, and the size of the 6x7 slides on a lighttable is simply heaven.

I shot almost exclusively with 6x7 (Plaubel Makina) for at least a dozen years. Now I am messing around with digital, which is sort of like a return to 35mm for me (easthetically speaking). If I decide to go back to film, it will be 6x7 (or larger).

6x7 is the bomb. I will shoot it for the foreseeable future. I love it especailly for color photography--all that film surface can't be beat, except by even bigger film, of course 😉.

Short answer is yes. Mamiya 7 is wonderful. Unbelievably portable. Very weird polarizer but so weird it's cute. Lenses outstanding. Hell, isn't a Mamiya 7 and lens lighter than an M7 and lens? Only thought of giving up 6x7 is to go 6x9 or 4x5.

I've been doing a lot more 6x7 color than 35mm color lately, maybe even more 6x7 period. Rapid Omega 200, though, so I've got the same KRA-KLAK plunger action drawing attention.

First thing I said when I saw that shot was "woah"

Of course 6x7 is obviously the bomb for pixel and grain peepers like myself. I considered the Mamiyas before buying the Bronica RF645 camera. It isn't 6x7, but for someone who almost never prints over 11x14, and isn't printing on the best equipment, there's no sense in the extra film cost and extra size.

BUT, as digital edges closer and closer to film quality, I edge closer and closer to either buying digital or moving up in film size. Knowing me, I'll probably move up in film size until I'm backed against the resolution wall. 6x7 will be my next stop, most likely.

Heck, I could sell off my Bronica 100mm Zenzanon RF and buy a Mamiya 7 right now. . . . but then the RF645 would be gealous.

I just started on 6x7 myself with the recent purchase of a Mamiya 7. Was edging towards that format with a Fuji 645, then a modded 6x6 Holga 120n ( www.holgamods.com ) and finally 6x7 on the Mamiya. Wonder when I'll get around to the rest of the formats.

Yea, I'm there with ya' gns. Been shooting a normal plaubel makina for 20 years and added a wide version about 3 years ago. Two 6x7's in a small crumpler bag: toss in a few rolls of film and you have the ultimate compact medium format kit!

Been shooting 6x6 with Mamiya 6 for about a year now. I've now added a Rolleicord Vb and Fuji GW690III to the MF arsenal. I see myself shooting very little 35mm film from now on. It's going to be mainly digital for smaller format.

I have not done 6x7 recently, though will probably do when I go out on my next trip.

I would really like to try printing 6x7 B&W on fiber paper, though I guess I really would need a new enlarger for that, and worse, space for it and a darkroom.

The trannies are nice though, and I can always scan, but I have a feeling that I am losing something by not doing traditional printing. On the other hand, the negatives are there when I get a chance to try it out sometime in the future.
