Nothing is what I want
Holy crap, Rick! Go back and look at the Diane Arbus photograph with the young couple and their two children. I think the child in the foreground is the same person in the Arbus photo! You have transcended time! That image is certainly a good summation of the situation. Someone needs to say, "Whoa cowboy.

I dunno Rick. I used to make comparisons to Nazis, especially back in the Nixon days. These days I see it as denigrating the suffering brought upon the people of the world by the real Nazis. Hitler and his gang were motivated by a hatred of non-aryans. While there is some paranoia about non-whites in many conservatives, their motivating factor is corporate greed.
The photographer was probably harassed because he was trying to report on an oil company's misdeeds. It's true that the US is morphing, but not into Nazis. It's more like the boss/prole culture of the novel 1984.

You have a valid point, Chris.
Nazi is a term that I normally do not use lightly because, I agree, it does tend to denigrate the people who were persecuted by them.
But, as you can see by the photo, emotions run strong when it comes to this war.
The photo in my previous post was shot in Denton, Texas- a college town about 45 miles north of Dallas, home to the University of North Texas. The weather was absolutley miserable- it was raining very hard, the wind was gusting as much as 20-30 miles an hour, and it was cold - and the turnout was very low. I only got a couple of good shots, but they turned out to be some of the more compelling images I have shot the last few years. Here is another shot from that day.

Thanks, John.
Good grief! I thought I was paranoid.....
Some of you guys will understandably have trouble seeing this from within.
To outsiders, the whole charade is a laughing stock.

Hey, I will agree with you on one thing- there is no doubt in my mind, that Bush will be the most closely guarded ex-president in American history.
As I type this, the plans for his presidential library are well under way. It is to be built in Dallas, close to the SMU campus. Ground has not even been broken yet for the project, and already people are raising hell and protesting it.
I will definately be there on opening day to document the event....
Just to be perfectly clear. I am not "bashing americans", I love them, especially those like this brave woman:

Michael Harris, thanks for the original post.
Rick Waldroup; what an amazing photograph.
Chris 101; listen to John Lennon's "Working Class Hero" it's all there.
John Rountree; " we have to ask ourselves how close the terrorists have come to achieving their goals, who has aided the most in their success?" and Rogier "The US is becomming the very same thing it has leberated the world from 63 years ago..."
sad but true
Leicasniper; you're right, it has become the "trump card"
Mattikk; the UK is also repressing photographers on public streets.
I've included the Galveston County News link in the Harassed Photographer, which is intended as a photographers resource and has many links for this topic including support groups, in the US, UK, Australia, Canada etc.

No problems, my friend. I never took your post as American bashing. Trust me, we are used to it. And besides, we beat up on ourselves enough, anyway.

Is that true what I heard about Bush being pelted with rotten eggs, tomatoes etc, on what was supposed to be a triumphal march up to the white house to get "sworn in"?
What a disgrace.
Yes, it is true.
And this was before 9/11 and the war in Iraq.....

When Bush leaves the White House and loses Presidential immunity he will be a prisoner in his own country.
He did not have a passport to begin with.... Never left the country....

Be careful Rick, this is what the detainment excerpt will read after your arrest:

Hey Al, now that is a cheap shot, my friend.
I've been waiting for you to chime in here. Where is your buddy, that digital guy, whatever his name is?

...there is no concrete proof that 9/11 was attacked by "terrorists". It was an inside job.
I would love to see G.W. brought to trial, but, for the record, hash-pipe musings like this are nuts, and make it too easy to dismiss the many legitimate criticisms of this administration.

I'd love to have some of whatver you've been smoking, as it appears to detach one completely from reality...
Either that, or you are seriously in need of a tinfoil helmet.
