Is this a black paint Leica?

I think Stephen's screwmount reference chart for serial numbers actually says whether cameras within a certain number range were black or chrome! 🙂

Hello Raid,
Leica 132434 is a Leica III (schwarz) Black & Nickel and was part of a batch
of 850 (Serial Nos. 132101 - 132950) produced in 1934.
Regards,
William

William,
Thanks. Is the camera worth a lot? There were quite a lot of black Leica III produced.

Keith,
I could not see the serial number in the photo of the camera.

Raid,

I`d say maybe it`s a $300 to $400 camera? .......it sadly has the "Gleiss Flash Sync Shoe or ROSOL/RASAL syndrome" *scratch in front of the accessory shoe near serial number*

These two well known and used accessories did that sort of damage on cameras in case anyone was wondering if they`d seen that before......my 43' IIIC K had a Gleiss Flash Sync block installed with a CTOOM as the owner used the camera indoors a lot for his photo work for Black Star and Life Magazine.
(and the paint is marred from the Gleiss block)

It`s a neat little camera, if the Summar`s clean and useable and the price is under $400 I`d say it is a deal, Black 1930`s Leica`s are collectable, but there`s MORE of them out there, then one thinks, I say take the chance and be patient for a cleaner example.....with the economy the way it is, many old collections are being broken up for $$$ and interesting cameras are coming back out onto the marketplace. 😀

Just my 2 cents 😉

Happy Shooting!

Tom

Scratches on the top
Shrunken vulcanite under the lens flange

...and those split rings

Nice camera and without even looking up the number I'd part with a few worthless English pounds to posses it...£250-£300?

It's black paint. With a few exceptions (gray, gold plated etc) LTM bodies came either in silver chrome or black paint. Leica didn't start to anodize cameras with a black finish until the M4/M5 or SL.

Thanks, guys. I have written off this camera. Its cosmetics are too rough and the asking price is close to $500. If it were lower, I might have been more interested.

Tom: I will wait for a nicer example. The black Leica cameras were not few.
Harry: The older models were made in chrome and black, as you have said.
Michael: The Summar comes with the camera for $500.
