Is this a conversion

Yes, it is a conversion. You can tell that from the serial number: that is from a pre war IIIa. The camera was post war converted by installing a flash synch not unlike the one on a Leica IIIf.

In my opinion cameras like this one are to be avoided. An original IIIa is much nicer.

I have nothing against conversions, but a lot against built in flash synchs into pre war Leicas, even by Leitz themselves. These constructions cause shutter problems.

Erik.

Dear Erik,

Very fair. Fortunately nr. 23010 (my girlfriend's II conversion) antedated standardized flash synch; I think it was done in 1932.

Cheers,

R.

I like conversed lenses too. This was done with a converted Hektor 50mm f/2.5. This lens was pulled from a Leica I and transformed into a screw mount lens with the infinity lock at seven-o-clock.

Leica II, Hektor 50mm f/2.5 uncoated, Tmax400.
