Is this a Copy of a Copy?

Nope! But it looks like clean work based on a Zorki 1c. I don't know if Leotax ever made a Leica II copy [no slow speeds], anyone?

The title does say, "Leotax Copy" and "Leica copy." Pretty confusing. And the vague item discription doesn't help, heh? Makes my brain itch. ... :(

But why the hell would anyone copy a copy? Why not just copy a Leica?

LOL x 3!!! :D :D :D

Yes, weedhopper. This is the wisdom that has puzzled many RF ninja, all through the ages. But it is not to us to ask "why? why? why?" It is only our portion to "buy! buy! buy!"

(I'm going to start a rumor on my blog that Leica is secretly making Zorki.1 copies in Toronto. ;) )

Everybody copies Leica.

This seller "Thinks Different".

It is a copy of a Leotax, and the same seller also offers copies of Reids and other rare "Leica Copies". I've even seen a Nicca Copy.

Can anyone tell me if this is an actual Leotax -- which is a Japanese copy of a Leica?
Or is it an FSU copy of a Leotax?

Maybe I'm suspicious because I asked the dealer and got a three-word ambiguous reply...

That Chiyotax was a Zorki in its former life :)

Take a look at what else the seller has on eBay:

He also has a "Shanghai" and a "Reid".

The Shanghai was formerly a FED from the earlier production runs. The engraver should learn more about Chinese characters- they look clumsy compared to the original stylised characters on the original Shanghai. :D

The "Reid" had been a Zorki which lost its RF....hate to think that a working Zorki had been excised of its RF to produce this Reid. Similar Leica "Standard" had been getting around.
