I just bought this Canon 85mm viewfinder from eBay.
Is this considered a good VF? Is it one of their common/ less common ones? Did I get a good deal? Approximately when was it made?

That's a fine price for that finder. It's the early style, simple reversed Galiean finder. Not very precise framing, since the frame outline isn't in focus, and a bit squinty. Same period as the chrome 85/2.0 and 85/1.9 lenses.
The later black "bright line" finders go for much more money. They come in two versions, one for automatic parallax correction on the V, VI, and L models, and one with manual parallax correction.
Even those don't go for as insane prices as Leica finders. Most Leica finders cost more used than any of my Canon RF lenses!
