My slow speeds were sticking, so I heated up the body with a hair dryer and ran it around 15 times at each speed. Its been a week, and it only stuck once. Do you think this will be a permanent fix?
well, if you use it with the slow speeds every day, it might be okay for a while- but it will jam up again. Not so great to have gummed-up grease in your camera anyways.
Please, don't heat up the camera, you could destroy (the glue between) the rangefinder optics!....opening the camera to service it is really easy (see the sticky thread on the 4K), and next you can easily take off the flash synch switch to get to the slow speed governor. Take it off, clean and oil it and put it back in, its just a piece of cake. After cleaning and oiling your Z will definitly sound more like an M.... (and if you have opened it, better clean the whole top!)
btw here's mine:
pic 1. on the left the flash synch switch which can easily be removed,
pic 2. the slow speed governor (escapement), before I cleaned it
