as you will notice in portrait images there is a line in the top right quadrant, as well as a line through the bottom of the image.

I wouldn't call that "banding" since it's more of a line, but it is a defect that some of the original M8s suffer from (IIRC, it's some sort of problem w/the sensor). If your camera is still on warranty, I would send it to Leica for repair/replacement.

Hmmm... the line isn't in the same place on all images and one image has two lines. I know that some M8s have had problems with columns or partial colums of dud pixels (I had one) but I wonder if it could be a faulty SD card.
I'd suggest taking several identical pictures of a uniformly lit wall, with a similar shutter speed and ISO as the pictures with a problem. Try the original card and another one. If it's a camera problem then all pictures will have a line in the same place. If it's a defective card then not all pictures will have the line or the position of the line will vary.
Bob.

bob --
thanks for the idea -- however when i tried all my memory cards,
the line appears still -- in color it's red however - which makes me wonder if it has to do with the IR / UV filter, although im not sure what exactly.
oh well at least i can swap it out no problem.
