I'd just say it was hideous and leave it at that.
That's a generous tribute compared to how I'd describe it.

A picture like the example shown is not my cup of tea as well, but I have non-photographer friends who would probably love it

Follow the link in the first post. The owner posted the photo with geo-information.

I do not think this is HDR. The water and canyon were likely adjusted with a Tonal Contrast filter. The shadows along the water's back edge have not been pulled up like an HDR would. As for the sky--I believe it was composited in from another image. The shadows just aren't right.

Not cool to post other people's photos for critique. You could easily figure out your query from it's location and tags. Get some manners, man.

Don't be so touchy. Its not as if the photographer has tried to keep this picture a secret. He's tagged it to Google Maps for c.... sake. Its as public as can be.

It's legal to post a link to a public photo. But I don't know if it's legal here if you embed a photo of someone else in a one of your posts.
I a big german camera forum such an embedded photo that is not yours will be instantly removed by an administrator because the forum can be sued for that. It's a copyright violation.

Well the picture itself is on Flickr, the image itself has not been copied to the forum, its linked and gets downloaded to your PC when you enter the thread. If I don't want someone to comment on my images I simply don't upload them to the internet at all, no matter where or how.

Yes
Yes
It's in East/Central Washington State, about halfway between Spokane and the Tri Cities, about 1.5 hours from Spokane, and I'd guess 1 hour from the Tri Cities, probably close to the Idaho border as well, pretty far from Seattle/Portland, probably 5+ hours drives from there.
The falls itself reminds me of Kauai, but around the park is just barren wheat fields, a few horses and cows, and very tiny ghost like towns. There's a small camping patch there, but we only saw about 2 tents setup.

Hi Warren
Hi Warren
not my cup of tea either, but I think I'd like to do it once. Like driving an SUV or a Harley, one of those silly things you gotta do once ...
So I guess I get a tripod, and shoot about 6 stops. I wonder if my Elements can then do it, or if I need the full Photoshop mess?

Nobody sought to ridicule the image. The discussion was an HDR yes or no discussion.

I don't know, Ted, you might try it and then become addicted to it!
I think there is an easy way to do it in PSE 8: Link to tutorial

yeah, i am kind of worried about that
yeah, i am kind of worried about that
Part of me wants to try it though ... so note to self - throw tripod in trunk
here is a link to some taken with the M8 and 50/1.4 lux, about 1/2 at 1.4 then the rest stopped down as far as 5.6.
I realize I broke my 1 year wide open thing after a few days, will address that in it's own thread ...
The kids, and a P&S I had with me give wider views, will post those later after 'developed' (taken out of cameras and off memory cards ...)

These were taken with the Fuji F72 EXR (same as F70 EXR) in EXR DR mode with the Fuji Veliva film setting, the zoom on this p&s goes from 35mm equiv. 28mm to ~410mm so the fov range, among other in-camera processing, is more than the fixed 50 lens on the M8:
What was interesting in reviewing these, that I didn't notice when taking them, is that there is a guy walking across the top of the falls in this image:
