I used my M-6 TTL to take some studio portraits for the first time today. The flash was triggered by a lead connected to the sync. socket on the camera. When I advanced the film (manually) the flash would sometimes fire. The lead was connected correctly and when used with my MF camera no problems were experienced.
Is this normal or is my camera faulty? Any feedback would be great.
By the way, I'm a new member so hello to everyone.

My M6 did the same, be sure to set the sync speed though (1/60th I think) or you'll end up with half frames.

Hi! I have a M6TTL which doesn't do this but I used to have a M6 which did, so the answer seems to be: "Some do,some don't; not to worry." The workaround in my case was using a sync adapter in the hot shoe instaed of the sync contact on the camera. Welcome to this friendly place.

Hmm... I have shot thousands of studio shots with the M7 without such a problem. The M6TTL shouldn't be much different. perhaps this is something that one of the Leica repair places can fix.
I had an M3 that did this; and misfired when used. The M2 repair manual shows this as an "error condition". The Sync contacts can be adjusted to correct this, and at worse need to be replaced. If it is not bad, have it corrected on the next CLA.

Thanks for all your feedback. Next time (first time actually) I get the M-6 serviced I'll have them check it out. Until then I'll try a hot shoe adapter.
As for ManGo's generous offer to dispose of the camera for a mere $100, I'm quite staggered by the generosity he has shown to a stranger. I must decline though, I couldn't impose such a burden....

Hi Jim,
One of my M6 rangefinders has this problem and I sent it to Solms, Germany two weeks ago for evaluation/repair. The camera does exactly the opposite of what it should - Advancing the frame fires the flash yet taking a shot does not consistently trigger the flash. Go figure. My other M6 performs consistenly well, however.
When customer service in Solms gets back to me with an explanation, I will post the message here, in english.
