I saw this listing on this website and the price seems pretty high compare to a normal listing on eBay. I just don't want to go through all these bidding war and rather buy it straight away.

Canon GIII / Canonet QL-17 #573200, Canon 40/1.7, made in Japan, just CLA, Ex++ $129.

Ex++ means
Excellent. Only very slight marks from use.

shipping is $12.

Compared to the prices I've seen in stores, it's reasonable. I recall that KEH once had one for about $175. They claimed it was EX.

You can always inquire about the CLA (who did it), and if the camera was adjusted to take 1.5 V batteries. Lens cap is a useful thing to have with a Canonet.

All in all, it's not absolutely unreasonable for a CLA'ed Canonet.

That's about right for a store, and a good Canonet with recent CLA. A CLA can run almost $100 by itself.

The GIII made in Japan is an early one, and somewhat uncommon. My Canonet QL17l, the model immediately before the GIII, is also made in Japan.

Is there really a Canonet QL17 GIII made in Japan? I saw a lot of GIII but they were all made in Taiwan. I only know they have the black version that was made in Japan.

I have seen some GIII's marked Made in Japan. The first GIII's were made there, most made in Taiwan.

All of the Canonet Ql17l's were made in japan. The Ql17l does not have the meter test light, instead used the needle for battery test. The GIII has a tapered rewind knob. A few internal differences, the Ql17l has a metal cover over the viewfinder box, the GIII uses plastic.

I sell QL-17 cameras on eBay from time to time, and I usually get about $100 for a clean, working camera. For black cameras I usually get over $200. In Japan the split between Japanese-made and Taiwanese-made cameras is about 50-50. Some people prefer the Japanese made cameras, but I have serviced many of these cameras and there seems to be no difference in quality. In fact, the Taiwan cameras are often better than the Japanese made cameras for the simple fact that they were the last ones made, and are somewhat newer.

I paid 40 bucks for one a couple months back on eBay. Seals were totally shot, I paid the ~12 bucks for the Goodman kit...cleaning the gunk out was a PITA, but fun to play with cameras! Not CLA'd, but seems to work fine...I'd say it's an average user.

I'd say 129 for a really nice one that actually has been CLA'd recently is a fair deal...
