Well, I got a reply from the seller, [FONT=arial,sans-serif]ua-projects. He basically said he knew the camera had that problem, but if I am not happy to return the camera for a refund. In looking at his non-positive feedback, he always leaves a reply saying the buyer is in the wrong. On the other hand, he does actually service the cameras, all the other Iskra listings basically say, it looks like you see in the photos.
I loosened those four screws and that made the focusing smoother, but still way too stiff. I am wondering if the problem is not actually the helical being cocked within its self, and thus binding. Maybe what is need there is some high pressure grease, a lot of cameras depend upon using the proper grease for smooth focusing.
Anyway, I will eventually tear down the focusing mechanism and troubleshoot it. In the meanwhile loosening those screws does help as the above posts say.
