I have sold off one hexar, but will not break-up the Ltd set. So, I have been forced to grapple with a flaw in this camera that became evident when I loaded some Fuji NPZ800 film. The AE reads totally differently if set to 800 vs DX. Anyone experienced this?

Phil, I hadn't noticed that in either of my HRFs... because I never use the DX setting. (Never noticed that setting before. Indeed I just got out my Hexar RF Ltd to see that it did indeed have the sensors in the film chamber!) I almost never set the box speed of the film anyway. I love NPZ800, especially in medium format, and set the ISO to 500 for a bit smoother grain and richer shadow color & detail. And as a pad against the dreaded underexposure!

But back to your Hexar... Is it only NPZ that is read differently, or other films too? And how much is it off, and which way? I take it you didn't encounter this with the Hexar you sold?

I never had this problem with the other hexar, but then again, I only recently started shooting this film. When I first had the problem I swapped in some iso 100 film and it seemed OK, but I find it hard to believe that one film alone would have this problem. Since I get oem and bulk-roll, it is a bit harder to do comprehensive checking. But I will.

FWIW/ My tac is to set the exposure to over by 2/3 and set the film to DX. It seems that I mostly shoot color in the hexar and color film tends to uniformly want at least an extra half-step. So, this had saved some effort in the past.

Clean the sensors inside camera as well as wipe the film cartridge - oil/dirt from fingers can do this in any camera/film, not just Hexar.

Hi, it happened to me as well with 400 iso film, since then i never used dx coding alone, always set iso manually...can´t miss on this🙂

Bye!
