ISO Selection for Steet Photography

I used to use Tri-X (400) exclusively for decades, though I've recently switched to Ilford's approximate equivalent - HP5. Occasionally a little Delta 3200 can be fun to use as well.

I'd say choose a 400 ISO film
I use a variety of ISO 400 C-41 B&W and color films, and set the meter to 250.
Primarily with the slower lenses of medium-format rigs and interior shots, it'll be ISO 800 film with meter set to 500.
Why set meter lower than box speed? Better/richer shadow detail and color density, smoother grain, and to give a margin for error to avoid the dreaded underexposure! 🙂

HP5 or Tri-X, pretty versatile; can do as Doug suggests above, but can also easily and reliably be pushed.

400 is good film speed for most daylight stuff. With street work, I would think a smaller F/stop and using Hyper-Focal DOF scales would be an advantage. Fast films afford this option for use. 100 speed if you are looking at a more confined DOF image. But you need to focus presisely for the shot, and may disturb/distract the subject too and lose the "Moment".

I generally shoot Neopan 400 at 400 with either a 28 f1.9 or a 40 f1.4. Recently I have been shooting Neopan 400 at 800 because I find light levels in Seattle winter time to be a little less than optimal for the style of shooting I like to do. I also dont get to shoot until evening or late afternoon.

Plus-X @ 320 in diafine (nice tonality) or
TMY @ 400-800 in XTol or
Acros @ 100 in Xtol (if its really bright out)
