Issue with file attachments to posts

I've just encountered a problem when trying to attach an image file to a post. See below for the message I got.

It's telling me two things - first that I've exceeded my quota by 25.84MB, and second that I have 25.81MB of attachments in total.

The numbers don't make sense, as I would apparently have to delete all my attachments, plus some more, to fall within the quota.

Is there a problem?

What a pain! Why not do what I do however - I use an image hosting site like Photobucket (free) or Flckr (also free if less than 200 images) and then cut and paste the HTML it provides into the rangfinder forum message box. Thats allt here is to it and it avoids hassles.

Yep...and e-mails about it go unanswered. This just came up since the server outage/issues.

That's obviously an option Peter, but I didn't want to permanently clutter my Flickr account with a photo of a Leica baseplate just to assist a member wondering if IXMOO cartidges work with an M6! Perhaps I need a junk account for things like this. Vain of me I know!

interesting because I just attempted to start a thread on Phillipe Halsman and I saw a notice that I had "redlined" at 5.3 MB of images and my upload was not accepted. I wonder if it's due to adding images into threads thru flickr? I know I don't have many images in the RFF gallery and nothing near 5 MB that I can determine, because I deleted most a year ago when there was a request to downsize our RFF portfolios to assist performance of the site itself.

ok, i cannot duplicate the error you are getting. By any chance is this the first time you are attempting an attachment? Just trying to determine whether there are privileges issues.

@MP.. I was starting a thread on Phillipe Halsman and wanted to insert a low res jpg of about 100 kb from my desktop when the notification came up...

I decided to disregard it and try an upload. I couldn't upload the jpg. I stopped at that point.

Regarding "is this the first time attempting an attachment" it is not. I have successfully entered images / jpgs into threads prior to this 'decline'

I've already got quite a few post attachments to my account, so it's certainly not the first time (priveleges) issue for me, unless priveleges have been inadvertantly changed somehow during the server upgrade.

Just tried again - the attachments dialog still shows me redlined.

Thats exactly why I keep the photobucket account - as a junk account for minor images that I need to illustrate something in a thread - as you say, a photo of a lens or baseplate or something. I keep my Flickr account for serious photos. But they still often get posted on this site as well in one thread or another. I just find it easier to do it this way.

These days I usually use attachments to illustrate input on a technical discussion. For the integrity of the forum and its usefulness to this community I think it would be a good thing for the forum to keep this information together and whole. If I host the images elsewhere that can be lost. Mind you, it can be lost here too as older content is disgarded by the policies set in place by the owners, or systems failures.

I'm having a similar problem.

1 It will tell me file size is too big when it's under 200k or gallery

2 The URL option on upload is not working, I've tried a couple of computers.

Me Too!
I've deleted all my previous attachments, red line changed to all green and zero, logged out, logged in again and it still tells me the first image (134kb) I try to upload exceeds my quota. Very frustrating, and no answer in two weeks.
