OK, I am truly baffled and miffed at this, but here goes:

I bought this strap from Fotodiox a couple weeks ago because the one that came with my 2.8D was too short even though it was a very nice cross over type. So according to their description, it fits models 2.8 A, B, C & D but makes no mention of E or F models. Fine by me because I have a D, right?

Well I got the strap and right away I could tell it did not fit. It would not fit under the brace bar and when I tried to get the alligator clip around the pin, it would not fit that either. So I did a quick search and found some reviews on Amazon that basically confirmed what I had encountered, the strap is actually for the E & F models with the pin that is under the brace bar, not below it like my 2.8D.

Well I get a refund, but not my shipping. I thought to my self there is no way in hell they are doing that to me when I had to pay to ship it back! So I go back and forth and basically they are not budging on it, told me that it will fit every model listed but not all variations of them. I called BS and told them that there are no “variations” of a 2.8D, it is either a D or it is not a D.

Am I missing something or are there variations of the 2.8D that would have a different strap attachment system? I have since gotten an adjustable crossover strap that is working great.

I have a feeling it is the way I told them it is and even though the shipping amount is small, I don't like getting jacked around like this.

It says in the description down below that it will fit cameras from model E to FX and GX but makes no mention of previous models except in the title...

I'd say you have a potential win for a paypal case...

afaik, there are no 2.8d's with the newer style strap attachment.

that page is confusing because the title says it fits models a through d, while the description says it fits e through g. on the other hand, the photos clearly show that the strap will not fit the earlier models...i think you're going to have to eat the shipping costs. 🙁

I'd echo that - I have a 2.8 D and the more recent Rolleiflex strap connector doesn't work. Instead I use a 1.5" Domke gripper strap - don't use the split rings - just thread the nylon web through the 2.8D's strap lugs - works great.

Harry Fleenor chimed in.....they owe me a refund and need to correct their site...😱

I had my Domke gripper on it as a temp, it did great. But now I have this nice one, works perfectly.

I've been thinking about a new strap for my Rolleiflex, I might have to give this one a try. The cost of the alligator clips alone are worth the price.

Somewhat amusingly, my Rolleiflex is a 2.8C. In the early eighties, (I picked it up in the late seventies) I discovered that I could order replacement strap bars from Rollei that were for the E & F series cameras. The strap bar was a direct fit on my 2.8C (reused the two screws), replacing the existing ones perfectly! This was all because my camera came with a Rollei leather case, with strap. The issue was that the strap and case were for the E & F models, so in order to use the strap I had to always use the case.

I make my own straps, including ones for Rollei. The aligator clips are reuseable if in good shape. Using a Dremel type tool it's easy to grind off the back of the rivets with a small burr. The rivet then comes out easily. Add a new strap, new rivets and your're good to go. Suitable leather and tools are quite inexpensive at shops such as Tandy's that cater to craft people.

getting a nice finished edge is another story, though! a lot of the pricey leather strap brands are remarkably poor in this regard.
