Did you ever have a week, where everything goes really well?

About six weeks ago I submitted a print to the "Black and White Architecture" round of Amateur Photographer's Amateur Photographer of the Year competition. I got the issue with the results in for that round today, and hey - there's my photo! I didn't get placed, but still it's my first published picture!

It's of the roof of the Great Court at the British Museum in London. I didn't take it with a RF (shock horror) but my Minolta SLR.

The other reason it has been a good week is that I just got the first results from shooting with my new CV 35/2.5, and I really like them - I think I'm going to have a lot of fun with this lens.

And finally, I've just found a processor who will scan films they haven't developed, for only £1.98. Looks like I might actually be able to look at some of the many films that I've shot and processed but haven't had time to print in my darkroom.

Anyway, carry on as normal. Just wanted to share those few things... 🙂

Congrats on your publication, James.

I actually thought the winner, while compositionally great should have been marked down for contrast. The Great Court shpuld be a fine place to hang out and shoot, but is ruined for me by the poor cafe in the corner and the fact that the seating is all dedicated to that cafe. The shadows from the roof make it irresistible on a fine day, though.

Congratulations James!

There's nothing like seeing own print in a high-circulation glossy magazine 🙂

Thanks guys!

Mark - my heart sank when I saw the winner. I really liked the composition of it, and I thought that was no way they'd pick two pics of the same subject.

It is a pretty hard place to shoot I think - like you say, it should be great - but there's just a bit too much clutter on the floor, which makes framing really difficult. The only other vaguely satisfactory image I got on that day is this one attached here. Not what I was aiming for, but there's something in here that I like.

And now I promise that the next picture I post will be from my lovely Bessa.

JamesW - nice photos. The British Museum is certainly a good location both inside and out. They don't seem to mind photography too much (as long as its not flash photos).

Where do you have the scans done and how are the results - this could save several weeks of scanning and at a bargain price!

Congrats on your first shot in print...now aim for the first cheque it's almost as good 😀

and post the location of the scanner geezer I could give him cash in excess of £3.96...

In museums in Vienna, there's a "no photography whatsoever" policy, which is a shame. On the other hand, in the Louvre, using flash is allowed, which bugs the heck out of me. What happened to moderation?
